Undo function does multiple actions

Title describes it really. I’ll drop a note, then move to elsewhere on the board and draw something freeform, realise I’ve drawn it wrong and hit ctrl-z and redraw… only to notice later on that my note was also undone with this single press of ctrl-z.

Is there any way to stop this “new” function (this never used to happen) so that undo only undoes the most recent thing I’ve done?

Hi @Michael Blayney,

Thanks for reporting this! The behavior you're describing does seem unusual. Undo (Ctrl + Z) should typically only affect the most recent action rather than multiple steps at once.

A few things you might try:

  • Check if this happens on a different board with fewer objects to see if board size impacts the issue.
  • Test in an incognito window or a different browser to rule out caching or browser-specific issues.
  • If possible, see if the issue persists when working alone on the board versus collaborating with others.

If the problem continues, I’d recommend reaching out to Miro Support with a screen recording or more details about your setup.

Additional info.

I had a session with someone else in my company but it wasn’t happening with her. But then she came onto the board I was having the issue and she had the same behaviour.

Is it possible a side effect of having a lot of objects on a single board?

Hi @Eca,

Thanks for your replay. I’ve tried everything you suggested (and a couple more things) and here are the outcomes:

It definitely seems to be board specific. It happens on just our current working board for this project (so far no other boards have this issue), to everyone, in every mode (desktop app, browser, incognito mode, different browsers - only thing I didn’t try is mobile app or MacOS app, but we don’t typically use them anyway, no one in our company is on a mac, and we’re always on our computers so the mobile app is not required). The problem’s there whether I’m on the board by myself, or with others. It also happens regardless of user level (board member, board guest, editor, owner, co-owner)

It doesn’t seem to be the amount of objects. We have another board with about twice as many objects we don’t use as much where the problem doesn’t happen.

If I use the “duplicate” feature to create a new copy of the board, the problem persists in the new copy, but if I create a brand new blank board, and then manually copy everything from the affected board to the new board, the problem is no longer there.

Only thing I can think of is it’s some kind of bloating issue. This board has been in use for about half a year, with constant modifications being done by multiple participants every day.

For now I’ve archived the old board and moved everyone to the newly created board; it seems to be working fine now. If the problem comes back I’ll follow up. Never seen this happen before, and we’ve been using Miro for our projects since 2021; so I’m hopeful this is a random once off issue that we won’t see again.

Kind regards,

Michael

Hi @Michael Blayney,

Thanks for the detailed update! It’s really helpful to know that creating a brand-new board and copying everything over fixed the issue, while duplicating the board didn’t. If you notice the problem returning, it might be worth checking if specific actions or tools trigger it. Otherwise, hopefully, this was just a rare glitch!
