How to link grouped items

I want to be able to add a caption to items with links, but when I group the caption with the item, the links disappear. The user has to double click on the item to select it within the group before the link appears. Is there a way to add a link to the group as a whole so that is not hidden?

@MikeBlyth -  The behaviour is (unfortunately) expected. The only way I can see for this to work in your example would be to make the text/shape object the link:
