User Permissions - Post Stickies without being able to "Unlock" Board

Hi All -- I’m looking to define a user role that has “post it” and “comment” capabilities (i.e. can use a board), but can’t “unlock” the board.

Does this exist?

Right now this is my understanding:

“Commenter” -- can comment, but can’t post stickies

“Editor” -- can comment, post, and unlock

Is there anything in between?

Thank you!

Sue

@Sue Galatz - Your understanding is correct - no such role currently exists.

This was the basis of my idea for a new role of "contributor" that could only add and edit their town content:

I'd suggest that you submit your own idea for upvoting. You can learn more about Wish List post guidelines here:

Thanks for your suggestion and update.

I’m still playing around with this.  Another Miro User suggested using layers.  So I played around with that.  I found that when using sticky notes:

  1. Once the sticky note is placed  - it can’t be moved or updated.  (Which doesn’t create a good user experience).

Is there some way to:

-- Create a “base” view that allows others (editors) to post stickies, vote with dots and interact on the “surface” of the base?

I’d love to hear suggestions!

Best,

Sue

Hi @Sue Galatz,

Thanks for sharing your experience! Right now, Miro doesn’t have a built-in role that allows users to add sticky notes without unlocking elements. you can upvote existing requests and share your use case or submit new ones

Using layers can be a workaround, but as you noted, it may limit how users interact with sticky notes. Here are a couple of options you might explore:

  • You can create a locked background on one frame and leave another frame open for user contributions.
  • If you have a specific structure, you could prepare a board template where contributors only work in designated areas.
  • Some teams use integrations like Google Forms + Zapier to collect stickies without giving edit access.

Would love to hear if anyone else has creative solutions! 😊
