Wrap text on new miro tables

Related products:Widgets

I’m a big fan of the new Miro tables. Great work there.

However, no matter what nice features there are on them there’s one thing that will stop me ever actually using them.

That is, ‘wrap text’.

If you can’t cells to ‘wrap text’ then you’re always going to need to have freakishly wide columns if you include more than a sentence or two. And no, alt+return to line break isn’t a viable solution to this.

The result of not having ‘wrap text’ is that the table is ALWAYS way too big. There’s great features there but a table that can’t fit a screen properly is a problem, no matter what other features there are.

Spot on @JakeOM.  I’ve just tried one, and am copying it all into an embedded Word or XLS table now.

What really surprises me is that developers didnt notice this.  Don’t they do simple volume tests of features are real-world scales before launching even a beta?

I like the ideology of keeping ideas nice and concise, but a simple text wrap toggle would be perfect when inevitably more detail is needed.

My ugly work around is to place a sticky note next to the table and attach a line to the cell.

same here. Love the feature in essence. But lacking text wrapping makes it a pain to work with.

It is indeed a very important feature for organizing information in a table!

Yes, this would be a fantastic feature. Please consider implementing this.

Could you please allow using the old version of tables? It was much more convenient with text-wrap cells. Updated tables are a nightmare. I can’t view the whole content. What’s the alternative now?

The old version still exists, and is now called “Grid”. This is my workaround, to just use grids for now.

Agree with the sentiment that text-wrapping is more of a must-have than a nice-to-have. The default table you see when creating a new one has dummy data in it that requires wrapping, in a description column, so clearly not an edge case.

I do love and appreciate all the new features you and the team are adding, and that you aren’t letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Quick improvements like this will certainly make it easier for me to adopt them.

100% needs wrap. Love it in general but it’s unusable for my needs without text wrapping.

100% agree with the need for wrap. Right now, I am trying to paste an excel table into miro, and it can only paste as the new table format, which doesn’t wrap. It’s not usable without the wrap.  My workaround have been to copy and paste it as an image, which is not great.  Would like to use grid, but I don’t think I have a way to paste excel table into the grid?

+1 to text wrap. Tables without text wrap are almost unusable, guys. This was a big slip from the product team not to have prioritized this feature for the launch of tables.

Also, some other feedback:

  • I apparently can’t add links to tables, they just convert to text. Even pasting the link on top of the text doesn’t convert it.
  • I can’t drag around the columns as I can the rows - very unpractical.

+1 for text wrap. That would be of highest priority to me. Second to that, I would love if cells inside the table could be linked to other objects like how you can link objects to other objects. It makes for an amazing reference sheet for a bigger design board. But yeah text wraps first if anything 🙏

Also since it's my first comment, I just want to mention that I really really love Miro. So thank you guys for all the hard work you put in!

The tables (new ones) are nice. but useless if you are trying to include more than a few words in each cell. +1 on wrapping text!

Agree.  Please add this feature

It’s painful not having the test wraps especially when we need to export the boards. Words are hidden, simply not acceptable 😆
