Tables (Beta) issues/suggestions

Isaiah Sherman

Hello!

I have a question about the Tables (Beta) feature that's recently been introduced to MIRO: https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/22760922335506-Tables-BETA#:~:text=Create%20a%20field&text=Click%20the%20%2B%20icon%20at%20the,fields%20and%20Custom%20field%20types.

I'm a big fan of this more "traditional" table setup and the robust ways to group and organize the table. After spending some time using it, I am wondering if certain features are currently possible or might be available in the near future:

  1. I can't seem to re-organize columns, I'd expect I could click & drag the column names at the top to reorganize them
  2. Hiding a column and unhiding it causes the column to appear at the far right end of the table, which further exacerbates issue 1 with not being able to click-drag to reorganize columns
  3. I can't seem to figure out how to embed an image into a cell or field. For example, I have a table for art production tasks that outlines assignees, status, a text description, and final image. However, I can't insert the final image in any cell, I just have to "float" the image in an empty cell I created. This creates issues when I want to organize or filter my rows, as the images will obviously not organize with the table since they are not embedded in a cell

I appreciate everyone who shares their experience with the table component. I understand that if copying the table contents isn’t working as expected, it makes exporting data much more difficult.

You're absolutely right—manual extraction isn’t really a workaround but rather a rework of the data. The feedback about copy-pasting, exporting, and general usability has been shared with the product team. Given that this feature is still evolving, I’ll keep updating this thread if there are any changes or improvements.

For those who wish to be added to BETA testing, kindly share that interest by submitting a support ticket.

Thanks again for your patience and for contributing to the discussion!

I would love to know how to simply add text within a cell

Hello!

I am using the Tables (Beta) feature, and I love it, but I can’t find a way export this table into an excel sheet or even any other format. Can you please advise how I might be able to export this?

Thanks
Sagar

Hello,

I am thrilled about the new Tables (beta) feature! It’s been fantastic so far, but I have a few suggestions for further improvements:

Recommendations:

  1. Wrap Text: This feature is available in Miro Grids, but I can’t seem to find it in Tables (beta).
  2. Convert Grid to Table: It would be helpful to convert existing Grids to Tables to utilize the additional features in Tables.  Right-Click Grid > Convert to Tables
  3. Formatting: Please include the formatting bar in Tables (beta).   i.e. Change font sizes, apply bold, bullets, etc.
  4. Selection > Copy/Paste: While we can highlight and copy content to paste into a Grid, this functionality isn’t available in Tables (beta).

Dear miro Team

The new Table feature is amazing. 💪
I’m using it for an implementation roadmap right now and struggling on some cases along my journey:

  • Management of views: I like to delete unused synched views. It seems not to be possible  visual on the board but not in the synched list. And the board is slowing down with each synched copy I’m doing. Is there a way to delete an unused synched table I didn’t see?
  • I like to add text and also links to the table like many others
  • Creating a synched card function is something really helpful.Bringing Cards and Synched Cards closer together would be nice
    • I could open the card side view of the synched card only with adding a standard card to the board. The Untitled table is from whereever...so not useful.

    • Also here it would be helpful mark the card specific fields.
    • It would be perfect to add a link (e.g. to github issues).
  • Timeline view: I was going crazy when I noticed the switch to timeline view. My journey here would be: Prepare roadmap on scope, estimations and also order in table view. Copy synched table and switch to timeline view. In a perfect world estimations (could also be a new duration field) would change the length of the timeline element and I only can move it left or right.
  • It would be very nice to do a calculation factor from one field to another. Not big formulas, but in my specific case I would add a factor from estimations to durations

For sure I’ll capture more inputs using it for other purposes. But for a project roadmap especially this is a gamechanger to me… I have everything on the miro Board already and just drop the planning layer on top. 🙌

Hi @Sagar Khakhaar,

Thanks for reaching out!

If you want to export the Table only, not the whole board, you’d need to put the table inside a Frame first then export the Frame together with the Table.

 Hope this helps!

I agree with Isaiah and Kyle’s comments above.  I would like to add:

  1. I don’t think it’s a good use of space to have an entire blank column on the far left of the table just for the row controls (snip below).  It actually took me quite a while to work out why I couldn’t delete that column or type anything in there.  Could the row controls be placed outside the main body of the table?
  1. Semi-related to Kyle’s ‘wrap text’ suggestion, I would like to be able to adjust the row height: both for individual rows and for all rows at the same time.

Hi @Anna-Lena Müller,

The team would love to understand more about your use case here as they are looking tinto formulas now:

  • please can you give examples of your use cases and what you want to achieve with formulas?
  • is it row level formulas or column total formulas or both?

@Alex_Boyce,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions! I'll make sure to pass this feedback along to the team for consideration.

Hi @Eca
Of course I can provide more thoughts of my use-cases (not to rebuilt excel😆):

  • Basic calculations on row level:
    • Totals of Estimates from different DEV areas to get the total of a feature (one row)
    • Factors of estimates to calculate durations based on Estimates and FTEs (Duration = x Estimate / y FTE)
    • Conversioning of Units Days in one row / weeks in another row (could also go with currencies for Feature offerings)
    • min. 1 variable better would be n variables
    • Percentages display (perfect would be switch between number and filled field (feature is 80% finished)
  • Totals for Columns
    • Totals for whole colums respecting filters
    • (Sub-)Totals for groupings
    • On synched tables I filter to get a dedicated view. I want to see the totals of the synched and filtered table.
  • Not yet specific for my use case but I could also imaging this to be helpful
    • Average on row and column level
    • Connect duration / start / end date

I hope these inputs helps. Otherwise I’m happy to support by answering your questions.

Hello @Eca,
Further feedback new tables

  • Connectors function
    • Enable the ability to have connectors (arrows, lines, etc) connect to indivdual cells.
  • Paste as grid
    • When pasting from excel have the choice between pasting as Table, Sticky Notes, or Grid.
  • Formatting
    • When copying from excel into a table it is adding spacing and indenting the cell contents when there is none in the excel itself.
    • Ablitity to format the colouring of cells and cell headers

If there is a way to switch back to the older version please could you let me know, as i have been previously been using grids to create my data flow visuals but as i am no longer able to paste into a grid, I cannot create or update my boards.

@Eca - Is there a way to export the contents of table so it can be used in excel I see you did image and pdf but the expected option to export as csv finds no data. The PDF is not selectable and looks like just creates an image.

Hi @SD_Robert,

Currently, Miro does not have a built-in option to export table content directly as a CSV file. However, here are a few workarounds you can try:

  1. Copy and Paste – Select the table, copy (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C), and paste it into an Excel spreadsheet. This may require some formatting adjustments.
  2. Manual Extraction – If the table isn't too large, manually entering the data into Excel may be the most reliable approach for now.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further guidance!

Hi @Eca,

Thanks for the suggestion but have already tried copy pasting straight in.

I’m afraid I don’t get more than the heading if I try at table level or at best a single field at a time as it seems you can’t multi-select these either.

I hope considering how fundamental copying out structured data is as a feature of a table this is addressed soon.

Hi, everyone! Giving here my feedback to the feature so far:

  • Field type of primary column: Why can’t I edit the field type? As a user, I don’t see the first column as a “primary column”, just as “the first column”. I should be able to edit them to my liking.
  • Warp text in cells: Very basic functionality. Without it working with tables is a hassle and I honestly see little reason why not to keep using grids. We do tables to make information visible in a structured way. If I cannot see the information, then that defeats the purpose of making a table.
  • Paste to Grid: The only thing that makes me use tables is that there is no option to paste to a grid.
  • Drag and drop columns: If after creating column 9 you realized that you forgot one, tough luck - you need to delete all columns and do everything again.
  • Format the text within cells: I need to add links to the cells that are hyperlinked.

Thanks for gathering feedback!

@Eca  please give us a paste as grid option- this now effects our deadlines and makes more manual work.  or allow us to OPT OUT/IN of BETA tests.

or allow wrap text feature.

In addition to all of the above, please add:

  • Cell color formatting
  • Text hyperlinking

When I paste a table of data I can now only choose between importing it asstickies or this new table component. I want to past as a grid, which is infinitely more useful to me than the new table. Can I deactivate the new one somehow?

Hi @Eca , the copy function of Ctrl+C nor the right click menu link to Copy will actually copy the contents of the visual table.

From my POV, “manual extraction” is not a workaround. That is simply doing the work again. I love the direction this is going, it just isn’t ready yet or else needs a bit more caution/warning about the beta-ness of the feature.

Thanks

Hi Miro Team,

First of all, thank you for continuously improving Miro!

We’ve noticed that the new table feature in the beta version doesn’t work correctly when applying a date filter. Once the filter is set, editing the table becomes impossible. In some cases, only the empty frame of the table remains visible, while the content disappears. The only workaround is to delete and recreate the table.

Could you please investigate and fix this issue? We’d really appreciate your support!

Best regards,
Tom

@Eca: Same to me… last week it did work.. now I can’t use my board due to this “bug”. I opened a support ticket for this.
