Question

Not able to copy-paste in the same board

Hi! For a while now, Miro hasn't allowed me to copy and paste (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V or using the right-click menu) within my boards. I have a free license, so I know I can't copy elements from one board to another, but these are simple actions like copying a sticky note or an annotation within a dashboard and pasting it right next to it. I keep getting the error "Copying from a previous source board is not allowed," but it's the same board!! Is anyone else experiencing this?

Was it helpful?

Hi @xandramg,

I’ve seen this happen before when the browser hasn’t granted Miro permission to access the clipboard. If you’re using Chrome, try this:

  1. Look at the URL bar—if you see a clipboard permission request (like in the screenshot below), click "Allow".
  2. If you don’t see the prompt, manually enable clipboard access by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Site Settings > Clipboard and making sure Miro is allowed.
  3. Refresh Miro after allowing permissions and test copying/pasting again.

Since you’re working within the same board, this shouldn’t be a restriction related to your Free Plan.

However, if issue persists, you may want to check the board sharing permissions and see if the who can copy board content is allowed by the board owner.

Hope this helps!

I’m using the application! I’m not a big fan of using it from my browser, but just in case I’ve checked this before posting this question. Thank you very much anyway! :)

To update this thread, we’ve checked, and the boards I own are working correctly. My colleagues have updated the permissions, just in case, to "all members with editing rights," but we still cannot copy and paste items on the board. Help, please!

Hi @xandramg

Thanks for the update! Since you’re using the Miro desktop app, here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Restart the App – Fully close and reopen the Miro app. If possible, try signing out and back in.
  2. Check for App Updates – Go to Settings > About Miro to ensure you're using the latest version of the app. Outdated versions may cause unexpected issues.
  3. Try the Web Version Again – Even though you prefer the app, testing in a browser (preferably Chrome or Edge) can help determine if the issue is app-specific.
  4. Reinstall the Miro App – If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the Miro app to rule out any corrupted installation files.
  5. Check Device Clipboard Access – On Windows or Mac, system clipboard permissions might be affecting Miro. Restarting your device can also help reset clipboard functionality.

If none of these work, I’d recommend reporting this to Miro Support for further investigation. They might be able to check if this is a known bug or provide additional troubleshooting steps.

Let us know if you find a solution! 😊
