Best way to export a flow into CSV

Hey everyone!

It’s my first time using Miro, and so far is been a great experience!

I would like to know if it is possible to export all the connections between my objects, as it would really help me creating tests for different features of our product.

Let’s say I connect two objects, in this manner:

Authentication successful? > No > Failed to login page
Authentication successful? > Yes > Home page

  1. Is there a way to export this as a CSV, where each line is a connection between two objects?
  2. What objects I would need to use in order to achieve this, as I’m currently using Basic Shapes and when trying to export, it says “There is no data to export”.
  3. Additionally, the type of object would be really helpful, on our example, the “Authentication Successful” is a decision and the pages are objects inside our system.

Thank you for any insights!!

Hi everyone,

We've received an update from our Product team, and they confirmed that the export to CSV hasn't been implemented for Diagramming shapes yet. This is primarily because, unlike our Basic shapes, Diagramming shapes often possess a more complex internal structure and can contain multiple distinct text elements.

We are continuously evaluating and prioritizing feature development based on user feedback, and your input is valuable to us. We will certainly take your request into consideration as we explore future enhancements to our Diagramming tools.

In the meantime, as a workaround, supports recommended using Basic Shapes to build a Flowchart. Alternatively, you can add Text boxes inside Shapes that will be exported to CSV. I understand this doesn't solve your request at this time, but hopefully, we'll get a chance to implement more features for Diagramming shapes soon!

Hi @Joao Cesar Pasin Calheiro

Sorry to hear you’re having some issues. Here’s an article about exporting that might help. Let me know if it’s helpful!

Hey Elva!

Unfortunately, even following those steps, I can’t export as a CSV:

It seems that the shapes that I’m using are not considered to have any text on them?

I’m having this same problem!

Hi @Joao Cesar Pasin Calheiro and @Ed Hunt

Thanks for sharing the screenshot, @Joao Cesar Pasin Calheiro! Just to clarify—are the objects you’re selecting standard shapes, sticky notes, or another type of widget? Also, do they contain text directly inside them, or is the text inside grouped elements?

I tried it using a mindmap and export to CSV is available.

@Ed Hunt, could you please share more details about the issue you experienced as well? Are you using the same shapes or tool as Joao? Please share a short vide or screenshots if possible.

Hi @Eca

They are flowchart shapes with the text directly being part of the shape (i.e. it’s not text boxes that I’ve separately overlaid onto the shapes, but rather text that I’ve typed into the shapes “natively”).

Also, it’s not that we can’t click “Export to CSV”, it’s that when we try we get that error message in @Joao Cesar Pasin Calheiro’s screen shot

@hm.seoexpertise have a read of my comment above, I have used the structured Flowchart elements and I get the same result as Joao.

Thanks both, @Ed Hunt @Joao Cesar Pasin Calheiro for clarifying this! I was not able to reproduce the issue.

Please wait for support’s assistance as I have your comments converted into a support ticket for further investigation.

Any progress on this? I am having the exact same problem.

Here are the steps I try:

  1. Create a flow chart
  2. Create a frame around flow chart
  3. Select all items in the frame
  4. Filter to ‘Shape’ object
  5. Select ‘Export to csv”
  6. System returns the same error as already mentioned: “Sorry, there is no data to export to CSV. Please select objects that contain text.” - All the flow shapes have text in them (they would be useless otherwise)

Were you doing similar when trying to duplicate? Several customers are having the issue, so it must be a system problem and not just a “one off”.

Help please. :)
