Mind Maps - shorter distance between lines / objects

There seems to be a (large!) minimum spacing between entries. Every time I add an entry or move one, the whole map is rearranged and gets bigger and bigger because of the large spacing - and is quickly too big for the frame ...
Also, different spacing between cells or branches would make it easier to illustrate which parts of the map belong (closer) together.
