Websites like dribble convert images to .webp files to optimise load speed. When creating a moodbard it is annoying to have to convert each one to JPEG or PNG to add to Miro.
I have same problem.
Yes, please!!
Yeah this is a huge one for me. WEBP is just too fast to not want to use for everything
Yes. Please add support for .WEBP
More and more websites are using it and the images can’t be simply dragged into a Miro board. It forces the user to save/convert or screenshot every image which can be a huge hassle.
Same here! Would be really helpful to implement webp.
Please.
for macOS users→ open the file, from top left → File → Export→ jpeg
I’d love this so I don’t have to convert .webp images every single time.
upvote this,
“this file is not supported”
very frustrating
Come on Miro staff!
It has been over a year now and WEBP is now the most common file type for images on the internet.
How is it that you STILL do not have support for this in 2023 ?? It’s downright embarrassing.
I’m pretty much prepared at this point to switch to literally any competitor that offers WEBP support, even if their service is worse.
hoping we can paste webp in the future but in the meantime theres a way to get webp into Miro in a few seconds. All you need is the default Paint software that comes installed.
Copy your .webp image
Paste in Paint
Now click the image with the Select tool selected (make sure the Select box tool is selected on the top toolbar). Then click ctrl+a to make sure the whole image is selected. Then press ctrl+c copy. Go to your Miro board and, click and paste by ctrl+v. make sure you dont have another image already selected in Miro or it will overwrite it (which you can undo by ctrl+z)
Considering webp is quickly becoming the default file format of the web and is designed to perform better with less size, I can’t believe this is even an issue.
Yes. It has to be done in no time.

This feature would be very helpful for creating mood boards.
so many images we need to drag and drop from websites are .webp
Undeniably yes it would be a huge time saver, especially considering Chat GPT only exports images in .webp.
I can’t understand why this not implemented yet, Miro would be the perfect tool for moodboarding and making presentation. Without webp (one of the most current prominent image formats) its not. What a shame!
RE: Webp file
REQUEST > Can the Miro staff AT LEAST provide an estimate for when this basic functionality is expected?
This thread goes back two frickin’ years! When you post, ‘we’re looking into it,’ it does not come across as sincere.
Even if Miro said, ‘IT will NEVER HAPPEN, you loser,’ it would at least be more definitive than what we currently have.
FUN FACTS
- As of January 2023, 96.3% of browsers support WebP
- WebP images can have several advantages over other image formats, including:
- Faster loading times,
- Less media storage,
- Saves more bandwidth,
- Improves search engine optimization,
- Supports transparent PNGs and GIF animations.
Thanks for your note,
While we can’t provide any timelines, I can point you to our changelog o https://miro.com/changelog/ ] where you can follow for weekly updates on new features and improvements.
Hello
I checked the link you provided and it is a very thorough, if not entirely backwards-focused look at changes made.
There is no mention of .WEBP file compatibilty nor any hint at when it might appear to our great shock and amazement.
I guess your advice was ‘check back every week’ and ‘don’t hold breath.’
QUESTION > if this feature appeared in Miro tomorrow, is there any way I would perceive it as being avaialable?
hi
It’s not an ideal answer, I’m aware. :/
When new features arrive, they appear on the change log. Sometimes, if they are highly requested Wish List items, we will try to find old Wish List threads and announce them there.
You can copy WebP images directly from a website and paste them into Miro, it will convert them to .png
You can’t download them to your PC and then upload to Miro without converting them yourself first.
Don’t drag and drop, it works 50% of the time, other times you get the not supported error. Copying image and Ctrl + V over Miro board has worked 100% of the time for me.
Here’s an example:
Thanks,
UPDATE for a HACK / WORK-AROUND that is faster than converting formats. This works for ANYWHERE you see the image, not just a browser. File type is irrelevant. If you can see it, you can bring it in!
- View the image in any way (browser / Photoshop / Explorer / etc)
- Use the Windows key ⊞ + SHIFT + S (This is the system ‘snipping tool’)
- Go to your Miro Board
- CTRL + V to paste it.
- It will be in a random location and size, but it’e easy to move and re-size.
- This actually may be the fastest way.
