today, video integration suffer from 2 limitations.

1/ secure video (not available with user login credential) will have no preview available, and you will see an ugly grey box with a play button on it.

2/ when you play the video, it does not play it inside the board, but instead popup a lager box to play it, except for youtube videos that must have benefited from special treatment not available for regular developers.

This proposal is to address 1/

enrich embed widget with a new attribute called thumbnail. And allow plugins to populate it with string representing jpg or png to feed an <img src=”data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAADI...”>

This way, there is no need for public access for miro backend to construct this preview, since it is provided at widget creation time by the app plugin, and this very user unfriendly limitation is lifted.

Was it helpful?

I agree, particularly with point two.  A competitor who shall remain nameless has sticky notes that automatically convert a video link on a sticky to a thumbnail (left) and clicking on the sticky allows you to play a miniature version of the video right on the board.  I love Miro, especially the support.
