Working with layers

Hi Guys,

I tried to adopt layers to our workflow but encountered strange behaviour.

The process:

  1. I create layer “Iteration 1” (leaving the default layer empty)
  2. I add some shapes and text to this layer and then get comments on it.
  3. Then I duplicate layer "Iteration 1" and name it “Iteration 2”

------ Up to this step everything has been fine ----

But when I try to edit “Iteration 2” some of the elements are added to the “Default layer”.

I edit things with the popup “You are editing “Iteration 2” layer on my screen.
The outcome I want is simple: to have different content on different layers.

Am I missing something, or is it a bug?

Was it helpful?

hi @MaciejEAPL

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Here’s an article about using Layers that hopefully offers tips on how best to use them.

I am having the same problems. Unfortunately that article does not address it. The article suggests is should be completely straightforward, and content should stay where it is put. It also doesn't explain the difference between lock and protected lock.

Stuff randomly moving between layers is making the function effectively useless because content doesn't stay where it is. I feel like I’ve spent more time putting content back where it was than building the board 🙁

Hi @Noelle Phegan and @MaciejEAPL,

Thanks for reaching out about the layers issue you're encountering. It sounds like you're experiencing some unexpected behavior with elements moving between layers, which definitely isn't the intended behavior.

There's a known bug related to layers that seems similar to what you're describing. Here's the link to the relevant thread where this issue has been discussed: Known Bug - Layers Child Problem.

I'm currently keeping an eye on this and will follow up with Support. I'll make sure to keep you updated in the thread.

Thanks for your patience, and feel free to let me know if you notice anything else that might help! 😊
