I have an education plan, I have been using it since September 2024, for the last few weeks, I have an annoying bug where some of my boards sometimes ask me to pay to use the connecting lines?

Some days it lets me use arrows/connecting lines, other days it does not - I cannot see anywhere in the Miro support pages or pricing plans that the education plan does not include arrows or connecting lines.

All of my coursemates do not have this issue, and are also on Education Plans?

See photos - The blue circle with the lighting bolt is where you usually draw a connecting line to it, but when clicking it asks me to pay $20

Here is what it looks like on other boards, where I can make connecting lines:

@Grace Stanwell-Smith As your first screenshot shows, the Miro Prototyping feature is a paid add-on. However, at first glance from the limited screenshot of the board, it looks like the connection line is being initiated from a basic rectange shape.

Can you share more information on the scenario in your screenshot? Eg., is it a basic shape? Did you create it or was it a part of a template? Where is it located (e.g., inside of a frame or another shape)?

This may uncovered the reason why it is being treated as a prototyping feature.

@Robert Johnson Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it! The connection line issue is for all objects - text, rectangles, sticky notes, etc. The issue is in the desktop frames, which I use to break up my board, as its a good size.

@Grace Stanwell-Smith

The issue is in the desktop frames

I think the issue is that Miro recently updated the “desktop” (and mobile and tablet) frame-type objects to be prototype objects. This actual messed up another user’s flow in this post.

Here is the difference between the “frame” types and how the connection lines behave:

Your desktop frame may not look like the above if you have the Show device option turned off:

Does this all align with your setup? Honestly, I think all we can do now is give the feedback to Miro that they reclassified the existing “desktop” frame objects from frames to prototyping type frames, which has resulted in a poor user experience as it expected for the user. I expect that when I select the Frame tool, that Frames are created, and not prototype objects. I will pass this feedback along.
