Trying to add a Frame but getting a Screen - is anyone else having this issue?

​@Jenni Kate My first thought is that you are getting a prototyping frame object (the mobile, desktop, and tablet prototyping objects utilize the same frame functionality that lets other objects be added to them as "children", so they move with the "parent" object).

Does this Screen/frame object appear on the board as soon as you press F, or do you at least have to click the canvas first?

And what does this say - is it prompting you to add objects to the newly created screen/frame?

Hi ​@Robert Johnson - thanks for replying.  I use keyboard F, select browser then the Screen is added (without any clicks on the canvas).   This is odd as I’ve done this command a zillion times and it’s worked fine up until yesterday evening.  

​@Jenni Kate Miro has been making many prototyping updates throughout the year in preparation for the recent launch of AI Prototyping, including updating the previously called "wireframe" library to "Prototyping library".

I suspect you experience is the result of another update where they added the updates screen frame-based object to the frame creation panel.

If you want a standard looking frame (as you showed in your screenshot), you will need to select an option above Mobile/Tablet/Desktop:

If you want a frame that represents a desktop browser/screen, 16:9 or 4:3 seem like reasonable options. 

Thanks ​@Robert Johnson - my issue is not how do I get a Frame (I can use the Frame menu) - my issue is that F is an established/ published keyboard shortcut and all the resources I have created now need to be changed… I have someone going into the classroom in 40mins with a set of instructions that will now be problematic. 

​@Jenni Kate Ahhh, yes, not I see your point (it’s was 6:00 AM here when I first read this 😉☕). I am on my laptop now and am experiencing the same behaviour as you.

From a user experience perspective, this change is unexpected as F = Frame and not Prototyping library. Actually, there may have been two changes:

1. While choosing Desktop before returned a Frame, I believe it could have been the wireframing frame object, but with the device type overlay disabled by default - which leads me to change #2:
2. the device overlay is now on by default, but can still be toggled off (which still doesn’t help with the fact that your procedures no longer align with the experience):

   

Maybe this change is only a test for a set of users and not GA (general availability) and Miro will revert to the old behaviour, or at least toggle off the “Show device” by default.

Thanks ​@Robert Johnson.  The main difference between a Frame and a Screen is that Frames will appear in the Frames menu for presentation and navigation, whereas a Screen will not.  Unfortunately toggling the wireframe on and off just doesn’t cut it.  

​@Jenni Kate Another main difference is that these new prototyping-type frames cannot currently be added to a Slide format like frame can. I suspect there are may some sort of unification initiative in the works, where all of the “container” type objects (frames, slides, prototypes, etc.) will become navigable, rather than just Frames in the frame panel. However, all of this doesn’t help you right now.
