I use post it notes for fleshing out ideas and mapping them out, so my screen is basically only post it notes. So today when I logged in I noticed they lacked in color and are all basic squares with no dimension. They don’t look like post it notes anymore. Is there a way to change them back to their pleasant appearance?

Hey @Reqcore ! 🙂

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

We understand that the updated sticky notes may feel different, especially if you use them heavily for brainstorming. This update was actually designed in response to community feedback, particularly around improving accessibility and reducing overly strong shadows. We’ve aimed for a more fresh and balanced look, with softer shadows and a cleaner appearance to make everything more readable and consistent.

While the design update is here to stay, we’re taking your input into account as we continue refining Miro to better suit your needs.

Hi there. I am also quite concerned with this new update. I thought that the purpose of having both the shape and sticky note options were so you could have the option between a shape with a shadow (sticky note) and no shadow (shape).

Is there a way to make the switch the shadow on/off? Like a little shadow dial option?

@sbexell - The new sticky note design does still have shadowing, and variance in colour near the edges (to give a “lifted” effect near the corners).

A = sticky note, B = shape

And here’s a colour selection tool to highlight the differences between the two:

Not that I have ever seen.

Thank you for the visuals @Robert Johnson ! 🙏

For the design enthusiasts out there, we’ve also added subtle variations in shadowing for different sticky notes to create a more natural look. 😉

And for those who really, really care (e.g., Miro Developer Platform users), here are the new sticky colour names and their core HEX values (I switched the sticky notes to shapes to get the HEX):

@Sophia Chia I believe there may have been at least one more minor change to the sticky note styling, which is a wee bit more of shading on the sides (or it was has been there for months).

Either way, kudos to the designers as they quite beautiful 😍
