How to see the board owner of a public board?

If this is a board which is shared with you as a Visitor (i.e. no Miro user account required to access it), then I don’t believe there’s any way to see the board owner as you can’t bring up the board info, there’s no access to the activity log, nor can you go to the Miro dashboard to look at the profile info that way.

ok, thanks. so there is no way to contact the owner either other than leaving a comment or similar on the board?

Correct - a large sticky note with your question or comment in a bright color is a good way to get an owner’s attention in a non-destructive manner 😂
