Grouping objects

I’m trying to group objects. Intuitively, I simply assumed I would select multiple objects and hit command-G. (I’m on a Mac.) However, that didn’t work. The objects remained separate. So I searched online for the solution, which is this:

Grouping is a straightforward process in Miro and uses the shortcut Ctrl + G (Cmd + G on a Mac). You’ll know that you’ve successfully grouped your objects when they quickly blink in and out of view.

Despite hitting command-G, I never see the successful response of my objects quickly blinking in and out of view. Literally nothing happens.

@Paul Seymour - As per the following Help Center article there are some object types that cannot be grouped:

Can you tell (or show us) more about what obejcts you are trying to group?

Are you using Miro in a browser or desktop app?

Does the group abjects action button work?

I figured it out. My objects were inside a table. For some unknown reason, they can’t be grouped if they’re in a table. So I pulled them out of the table, grouped them, and put them back in. Not sure why I had to do that, but at least now they’re grouped.

⚠️ Content within tables can't be locked, aligned, and grouped.

The workaround of dragging objects out of the table/grid to group them is great, but then once you put them back, you can’t lock them 😥 - when you are making a group outside of the table, you see the lock option, but that’s useless as you do not want to lock them OUTSIDE the table!!

It’s maddening when creating a board for public feedback on a tool and you want to lock down certain things. I miss the ability to just group mixed items - or even when I could just drop a frame around the whole mess of mixed items and lock it down.

Now suddenly the frame seems partly useless - it locks down some things and not others. I was running a workshop and all of a sudden, people were accidentally randomly moving things around (that they never could before). Love Miro but….

Until Miro makes a change to allow grouping/locking of objects inside of a Table, if somone wants to have objects, e.g., two sticky notes, appear to be locked inside of a Table, for now the workaround is to lock them outside of the table and drag the table over top of the locked objects. So, in this case locking them outside of the Table serves a purpose.

@Robert Johnson Thanks - great workaround! In this particular use case, it’s a gigantic PIA - but I guess that’s what interns can help with :) but it will work!!
