Hi,

Your TOS say that you can only use Miro at a company for internal purposes, and that you cannot use Miro “on behalf of, or to provide any product or service to, third parties” - but I see threads here on using Miro for consultancy, clients, giving board access to clients, etc. Can you clarify? I’m very confused. Example: Is there a 'client' account type I can use on the business plan? | Miro

If this is allowed for paid users I’m happy to upgrade if needed. I’d love to be able to use the free account  for my project though (am a student).

Specifically: What about for an academic policy project with a client (like a policy paper), non-commercial, with the final policy report being published on the university website?

Thanks!

Hi @Sabrina_DL,

Thank you for your question! Let me clarify how Miro’s collaboration features work in the context you’ve described.

Miro allows you to share boards with collaborators without any additional license to be paid in two main ways:

  1. Guests: On paid plans (like the Business Plan), you can invite external collaborators (such as clients or project partners) as guests to access specific boards. This option is great for working together without making them full team members.
  2. Visitors: On both free and paid plans, you can enable public access to a board by sharing a link with restricted editing or viewing permissions. This method is often used for sharing a board with people outside your immediate team, though advanced options are available on paid plans like setting up a password for your boards to be accessed by a visitor.

For your academic policy project, sharing the board with collaborators as guests or visitors should work, but it’s important to ensure this aligns with Miro’s Terms of Service. Since the details of terms can vary depending on your specific use case (especially for non-commercial or academic purposes), I recommend reaching out to Miro’s support team for more in-depth clarification. They’ll be able to confirm whether your project setup aligns with the platform’s policies.

Hope this helps!
