Hi. I am on the Education Plan, and sometimes I need to search for some keywords across all my boards. For that, I use the “search by title or topic” text box on the top left side of my Miro dashboard, and when it doesn’t yield a result, I narrow it down by clicking on the “search within content” button. Miro will then list the boards that match with my queried text, but recently I remarked that many of my searched texts are not matched anywhere, even though they actually exist within normal text fields inside one or many Miro boards. Why would that happen? especially knowing that it already works for some other texts, so this seems like random behavior. Is it that I should do something to index content each time I add new text in boards? or what exactly.

I looked at this article: https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012140959-How-to-search-in-Miro and also tried playing with search filters and others, but it never found the queried word or words, and those are many. I depend on this search feature to fetch my bits of knowledge and links distributed around my various Miro boards.

Thank you very much for assisting me on this.

Hi @Youness Lahdili, welcome to the community — happy to help!

I understand how frustrating it must be when the Advanced Search function isn’t returning consistent results, especially when you rely on it to gather information across your boards.

There are a few possible reasons why certain search terms might not appear in your results:

  1. Miro may take some time to index newly added text, especially if it's a large board or you've made recent updates. Normally, Miro automatically indexes content, but in some cases, this can take longer.

  2. When using the "search within content" filter, Miro searches only within the editable objects, so text within images, sticky notes, or locked content might not be included. Double-check that your text is placed in searchable elements like sticky notes, text boxes, or shapes.

  3. If you're narrowing the search to a specific board or time range, be sure there isn’t an additional filter that’s limiting results unintentionally.

Steps to try:

  • Try refreshing your dashboard or logging out and back in to force a sync across your boards.

  • Make sure no unwanted filters are applied when searching.

  • Test with a simpler search term to see if it might be an issue with the specific query you’re using.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, I’d recommend reaching out to Miro Support for more detailed troubleshooting, as they can check your account and content index in more depth.

Let me know how it goes or if you need any further help!

Hi Eca, thanks for having taken the time to write a reply to me, it was very informative. So Miro has to index the boards content for search to work. Given that my boards are significantly large, I think it takes time to crawl them as you suggested. I followed your tips, and made sure that my keywords of interest are living on editable objects.

Currently the keyword I was searching appeared on the search result, so I believe it just needed some few days for it to be indexed, hopefully in future Miro will find a solution to expedite this big search indexing process.

Again, grateful to you Eca for the very helpful and prompt reply you gave.

Wishing you a very good day!

Hi @Youness Lahdili, glad to hear the keyword showed up and that the tips helped! It’s good to know it sorted itself out. Feel free to reach out anytime if it happens again.
