Miro Board Administration

When a user leaves the company or their Miro account is taken away, Boards default to the admin.  Inevitably someone wants access to the orphaned board and its up to the administrator to figure it out.  Does anyone have a good management method to deal with this situation?

Was it helpful?

Hi @Matthew Heath,

Thanks for reaching out!

This is a common challenge in Miro administration. Here are a few strategies to manage orphaned boards efficiently:

  • Encourage Shared Ownership – Assign multiple co-owners to critical boards so they remain accessible if the original owner leaves.
  • Use a Dedicated Admin Workspace – Move important company-wide boards to a workspace managed by admins instead of individual accounts.
  • Establish a Transfer Process – Before offboarding users, check if they own key boards and transfer ownership proactively.
  • Regularly Review Boards – Admins can periodically check for boards owned by users and reassign them as needed if the user is about to be removed.
