The new system for bulk-rearranging objects is awful! Please restore original system!

Dear Miro team,

The new system for bulk-rearranging objects that was released with the recent update has had a massive negative impact on my workflow and productivity.

The original system (grabbing and pulling the symbol at the top-right corner of a selection) was elegant, smooth, and efficient.  All of this with a single click and drag.  It was perfect.

Now I have to…

  1. Click the icon in the top-left corner
  2. Scroll down or zoom in/out to find a pink bar at the BOTTOM of my selection
  3. If I’m zoomed out slightly, the pink bar can be too large for me to select the collapse/expand functionality, so I have to zoom in really close to make the pink bar smaller.

The new system is also buggy:

  • The rearrangement symbol doesn’t always appear after selecting a group of objects.
  • An layered stack of stickies will not un-layer when using this system -- it just shifts the stack around

Please, please, please restore the original system! 😫🙏. This is a huge step in the wrong direction.

I also wanted to add that I’ve spent a lot of time trying to accept this change and looking for ways to use it effectively, but it has been an ongoing challenge.  I see no worthwhile improvements.  I see only drawbacks.  Am I the only one who feels this way?

Also, the option to bulk-rearrange a group of selected objects appears to be missing from the mobile app altogether?

I’d really like to have the old system back. This feels like a huge downgrade. It was one of Miro’s best features, and the new system makes working in Miro feel much slower and less efficient.

Thanks

This is a huge win for Atlassian’s Whiteboard, which up until today I had considered far inferior.  I did not realize how much of that inferiority was an impression based on one feature.

Either there is a limit to the number of cards this can process (the grid icon doesn’t show if too many cards selected) or the cards have to be pretty much aligned before you can see the grid icon.

And until I googled what happened to Miro’s bulk rearranging and found this, I didn’t even realize that occasionally after (and only after) pressing the grid that the pink adjustment bars appear.  So I was even more upset prior to finding out I need to use small groups of cards, and then can adjust with the pink bars.

Please restore the old super quick and easy system.  Or provide a switch letting the user choose between the two.

I just discovered this as well.  Super frustrating to have a limit on the number of objects that can be rearranged using the new system.  I’m managing a lot of stickies on my boards.  This is a huge bummer.

Thanks for sharing this feedback. I understand the team is planning to revert the functionality of this button and reintroduce the new layout feature later, with a different entry point. Feedback like yours helped drive that, so please keep it coming!

Couldn’t agree more with OP, stopped me in my tracks this morning when I first encountered it. What was a simple click and drag has become cumbersome and I don’t really understand what the new behaviour is supposed to add or fix? Whatever the intention is, it’s not intuitive at all.
