Title
Support User Display Preferences on Miro Boards (High Contrast & Accessibility Display Settings)

Type
Feature Request

Background
An accessibility assessment performed by Deutsche Telekom identified that board content and board controls do not adapt to user-defined display settings, such as operating system or browser high contrast modes. This affects users with visual impairments and users who rely on personalized display settings to effectively perceive and interact with content.

Problem Statement
Currently, visual board elements, controls and canvas content maintain their default appearance even when users enable high contrast or similar accessibility display settings on their devices. As a result, content may become difficult to perceive or distinguish, reducing usability and accessibility for affected users.

Requested Enhancement
Introduce support for user accessibility display preferences within Miro boards by:

  • Respecting operating system and browser High Contrast modes where technically feasible.
  • Providing an optional board-level accessibility display mode.
  • Ensuring canvas controls, toolbars, navigation elements and critical board content remain visible and distinguishable under alternative color schemes.
  • Supporting system-level accessibility preferences without negatively impacting standard users.
  • Providing documented accessibility behavior for canvas-based content.

Business Value

  • Improves accessibility and inclusiveness for users with visual impairments.
  • Supports Deutsche Telekom accessibility objectives and procurement requirements.
  • Reduces adoption barriers for enterprise customers operating under accessibility compliance programs.
  • Enhances usability for users working in customized visual environments.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accessibility beyond the minimum WCAG compliance baseline.

Expected Outcome Users who activate high contrast or similar accessibility display settings can perceive and operate key Miro controls and board content more effectively, resulting in improved accessibility and user experience across enterprise environments.

Priority Recommendation Medium

Justification for Priority Although not classified as a mandatory WCAG 2.2 AA defect by the Miro accessibility team, the enhancement addresses a significant usability barrier identified during an independent accessibility assessment and provides substantial value for accessibility-focused enterprise customers.
