Split screen to allow focus on two areas at a time

I’d like to be able to split the whiteboard so that I can focus in on two seperate parts at the same time. For example focus in on the details of stickie notes in an area of the board while I summarise them on a different area of the board

Wow, this is a really cool idea, haven’t even thought about it!

Another example where we have a need for this - we have been doing design sprints where we have a topic area at the top of a section and then each person has to zoom away to their own area to create some stickies with their own ideas - I find I copy and paste the “topic” (i.e. the context of what I am responding too) into my view so I can refer back to it when answering my questions

If I had a split screen view I could keep half focused on the original question while the other half is focused on the area where I am doing my updates.

  • This could be PIP
  • Each view would need to have different zoom levels

In the meantime, a few strategies I often use are:

1. if the Copy as image feature has been rolled out to your account, you could select some objects on the board and copy them to your clipboard as an image (I believe the shortcut is Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+C) and then paste the image where you need to reference the information.

2. open the board in another browser window and put the two boards side by side.

@Robert Johnson yes - a copy of the board in a second browser would work - I use the native mac OS app which doesn’t allow that - so I would be mixing browser and native in my case.

Also I would hope that there would be a more native “freeze and split” and then you can scroll on vs having to scroll to both places.

I agree there are work arounds - would just be nice to have native support for something.

This would be an awesome feature - especially in the desktop app!

I like this idea.

To achieve that now I open two browser windows. But it would be great if I could do it in one place on my ultrawide monitor

Great idea!

I second the idea of a split screen function!
I currently use two separate browser windows (which works okay), but splitting could mean a quicker and easier way to do this.

Yes please.  The dual browser windows doesn’t allow what I’d like to do.  I’ve often collated ideas that I need to rearrange or reference.  So being able to have a split screen that I could drag elements across or link easily would save so much time.

Absolutely agree. One of my major Miro use cases is taking a bunch of stickies generated into an idea session and clustering them.

I need to be able to navigate around the clusters in progress in one screen. And see all the raw unprocessed notes in the other. They are usually in separate areas of the board.

Being able to drag between two windows looking at different parts of the board is the critical part.

Adding my vote to this. I’d like to have two docs side-by-side on the desktop app - one for collected reference, and the other for notes and writing.

A workaround for mac os app: If you go to terminal and type the following, it will open up a new instance of Miro app.

open -n /Applications/Miro.app

An easy Miro internal function would be sooooo needed!
But nevertheless, thanks for the tips above to mitigate the situation.

I wish we had a split-view option too. It would make it so much easier to zoom in while summarizing on another part of the board. For now, I just open the board in two windows to manage both areas.
