Setting shortcuts for position on the board

On larger boards with multiple areas of content, it would be a huge relief to set views with CMD + 1 to CMD + 9 to be able to jump between them more easily. Especially when I'm sitting at the 13" laptop I could save a lot of navigation.

Workflow would be:

  1. navigating to one point
  2. press cmd or (ctrl) + 1
  3. navigate to new position
  4. press cmd + 2 to save new spot
  5. press 1 to move back to point 1

Know this is an older post @Martin Jerulank , and I see we still don’t have anything like this in Miro yet - but I was also getting tired going back and forth between board positions.

Made a Miro app for these jump points - which allows you to quickly add jump points to different areas on the board. It doesn’t have shortcut keys like you wanted (I couldn’t get the shortcuts keys to work reliably without interfering with browser controls), but it does keep it nicely outlined in the left app interface.

Saving me a ton of time going back and forth across different places or objects in the board.

Hope this helps if anyone else is looking for this kind of functionality: https://miro.com/app-install/?response_type=code&client_id=3458764647261869483&redirect_uri=%2Fapp-install%2Fconfirm%2F

@ShanoMac Amazing work – thanks for sharing!

One nice tweak may be to a zoom speed, which is controlled by animationDurationInMs.

Personally, like as fast as possible. I had previously set my Miro preferences to Accessibility → Reduce motion = ON, but I later noticed that this blocks the sticky note emoji and interactive sticker animations, too, which is not currently noted in the Reduce motion help center article, so I turned it off again.

For anyone who can’t install 3rd-party apps that are not in the Miro Marketplace, you could checkout Miro Labs’ Bookmarks app, which

  • let’s you bookmark objects or locations/Jump Points
  • also makes the bookmarks you create available to all team members.

Robert! :) Thank you for taking the time to give feedback - really love that suggestion and went and added in that reduced motion capability to make it easier for users who prefer that option - great idea!

Gosh, this Miro Labs’ Bookmarks app is already everything 😅 I should have looked a bit harder before making mine.

I must say that Marketplace submission process just racks my ADHD brain… need to make time to get it going. Thanks again for the help and suggestions - appreciate it!

You’re welcome and thanks for adding that!

Well, now Jump Point does something that Bookmarks doesn’t (Reduce Motion). I suppose that, for Bookmarks to expose any Bookmarks that exist for a board, it ignores who created the entry and exposes any by board ID? I guess there is limited security concerns as only full team members can authorize 3rd-party apps.

So, that said… maybe your next enhancement is to add a toggle for “Team visibility”, with the default being ON (the user would need to disable if they didn’t want other team-member editors to see the Jump Points? And with this change, update all existing  records to FLASE for Visible for team).

Once you start these projects, the updates never end, right?! I haven’t worked as a software developer for nearly 20 years, so when I came up with the idea for MultiFrame, it ended up being way more work than I anticipated.

It was a process — I created a Kanban on a Miro board to track it. FYI: Expect that, if you receive an error during the initial submission process, they still receive the request in their Jira Service Management queue.

ViewLink

I wanted to create links to viewports that would work without a 3rd-party app needing to be installed, so I grab the viewport using viewport.get() . The problem, however, is with my intended use case which is to have a link on a board take the user to the location. Unlike moveToWidget, which is parsed in real-time if the widget ID exists on the current board, clicking on my moveToViewport link opens the board again in a new tab/window 😕

I created a Wish List post asking for moveToViewport to be parsed the same as moveToWidget. Here’s the post:

If you’re curious about the app, the install link is here under Miro Apps:

I’ll  PM you the code here:
