rotation is shifting at something like 5-10degrees per cursor movement, it would be cool to (A) make that more granular and (B) have a little guage beside the cursor or at the apex of the object to show the angle it is at.

Yes! To me this is just like how a shape shows its X,Y dimensions when you hover over the bottom right corner of the shape.
A shape should show its rotation/orientation both (a) when you hover over the shapes bottom right corner, and when you are rotating or resizing the shape. Same deal for lines and other objects on the board.
As the OP said it should allow for fine changes in rotation i.e. I should be able to alter it by 1 degree
