Import SVG objects to be editable

..or at least be able to change colors and outlines.

I’d prefer a Microsoft Visio import, but I’ll take editable SVG to start.  Visio has been around for a long time and there are many people that would love to transfer them into Miro without having to start over.  Even if an editable SVG transfer could get me 75% of the way there with text, basic shapes, and connection lines, it’s a win in my book!  It would also be a huge selling point for Visio users seeking an alternative.

This is critical - biggest gap in MIRO functionality that would:

1. save time for existing users/ allowing them to migrate things to MIRO
2. Enable access to new users - by making migration possible

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Once an svg has been imported to a board, it cannot be modified and is essentially treated as a bitmap rather than a vector.

WHY THIS IS A PROBLEM:

It is common to change the color scheme of a frame, particularly when preparing content for distrubution or when re-using assets between projects. The current workflow is to:

- Save all assets used on a board to the creator's workstation
- Find each asset that requires a color change and then modify each one in illustrator or inkscape
- save the file as an alternate version of the same .svg

This wastes alot of time

PROPOSED RESOLUTION:

MVP:
- Support color change for svgs (this is built into the technology and is supported by every browser via javascript

Expanded use case:
- Offer a large library of media that may be customized (or work with sites such as "noun project" and "unsplash"

Here you can colourize elements … we need a library that offers the same functionality AND important: The lements should be rotatable

Seriously Miro, it’s been 2 years.  Your REST API is also laughable.  Please don’t make me regret using this service and find something else.

This should be a very basic minimum functionality IMO.

Evidently not. In my workflow, I need to import symbols that won’t be in Noun Project etc. I also need them to be changeable at least in fill color. Today, an imported svg color fill can’t be changed.😥

I appreciate the new Images and Icons–tool, but still no color change enabled. It would help us a lot to follow the guidelines of our University’s Design System and Design Language!

Draw.io app can be connected to miro. Draw is is an editable SVG basically.

My use case is a diagram created with PlantUML and exported to SVG. I would like to iterate and collaborate on it in Miro.   

I’d really love to see this, so annoying...

It is shocking that this feature has been requested so many times and haven’t been implemented yet.

• LLMs can create SVGs and MermaidJS diagrams (both are text files).   In the age of LLMs, it is absolutely a critical feature to be able to import from a text based format or clipboard such as svg xml or mermaidjs syntax.
   
• As an engineer (software)
• I need to be able to use specialized LLMs to
  • generate technical and architecture diagrams
  • in a text-based format (accessible to LLMs and visually proofread-able)
  • Such as claude/gpt/github-copilot (enterprise)
• And then import them directly into miro. 
  • I “waste time” re-drawing things if I have to start from scratch in miro.
• CONSTRAINTS:
  • Miro LLM will never suffice
    • LLM context I would have in other places
      • like confluence, github, and Claude AI projects. 
    • Specialized LLM/AI models
      • specific to my industry, company, team
  • Wastes time re-drawing things in Miro. 
  • Existing import options !! Corporate data policy
    • No enterprise license for draw.io and vsdx and other tools
    • corporate data policies would prevent me from putting sensitive company data on any current platforms/formats.
    • I cannot use the existing import formats with LLMs.

Just like KimballRobinson99 posted above, LLMs (like Claude and OpenAI) are great at creating SVG images that are 90% of the way there, but often need a little tweaking.  I’d love to bring that SVG into Miro and have the individual shapes turned into objects that I can make changes to.

i just switched from Excalidraw to Miro. I have created big and complex diagrams and user stories in Excalidraw. When i export them as .SVG, they are not editable in Miro. When i open the same SVG files into Visio, then they can be edited for 70%-80%.
I am extremely surprised and worried at the same time, that after importing the SVG into Miro, it becomes 1 non editable image. Unacceptable for a program like Miro.

Dear Miro team, I use Figma and appreciate its ability to import, export, and edit SVG files as vectors. I hope Miro can add a similar feature in the future.

I can just second ​@KimballRobinson99 ‘s point – use of LLMs is rapidly increasing across the tech industry and the inability to integrate these fluidly into a Miro scenario is a breaking gap. I will have to revert to Excalidraw or Figjam for specific types of whiteboarding sessions that rely on iterative collaboration between team and LLM. 

+1 Can’t stress enough how much this is needed from a design perspective. Branding would be so much easier with custom SVG shapes that users could color themselves.
