For IA purposes, being able to do this would really be fabulous!

Indeed, when using with Optimal Workshop, it makes tree-testing so much easier if you can import a CSV with each item in their own row corresponding to the parent column.

We are looking to possibly convert from MindMeisterto Miro. But the only thing stopping us is not being able to export a mindmap to a word doc. Are there any updates from Miro about considering this feature????

Until they actually fix this, if you must use the mind map you can prepend a number to each of the entries in the mind map indicating the branch and position.  each entry at the first level get 1,2,3...N and each entry at the next level gets 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, etc. and so on throughout the map.

Export and then sort.

Brutal but effective.

Great idea, at least the work done in Miro is not lost, at this point any tricky solution would do. Too bad I did not check this list of comment before starting building the mind-map

Today August 28th 2021 this idea has collected 138 upvotes, it would be great to get some indication from Miro whether the download of MindMaps is going to be improved soon.

There are some in this thread that clearly state they are not subscribing because not being able to download the results in a meaningful way breaks the flow and with that the benefit of using Miro.

P.S. Thanks @Bruce McPherson for the workaround above.

Please fix this. LucidChart offers this functionality by default.

Julian Zaraza

It's been 1 year since this feature was requested, please hear us out Miro team! Such an powerful tool without the possibility to harness structured data inside it.

Agree a better export for mind maps really is needed ASAP.

Yes!! And then you need to be able to add a bunch of fields to teh xls, and reimport it to mira.  (obviously you willl need to manually move the nodes around, but nobody is going to store their main data in miro, we need to be able to import and re-import it

also needs to export a column for any emojis, comments etc attached to any of the data points

Adding to the chorus. Please make the export maintain the hierarchy.

Just documenting that this is STILL HEAVILY needed!  We will 100% change to a different platform that is similar to Miro but allows documentation.  I noticed LucidChart was mentioned.  Checking them out now.  Doesn’t matter if I need to re-create all of the work already done in Miro, the downloadable hierarchy of the mind map function is needed that much!

Having spent quite a long time creating a hierarchy, I find it very frustrating that this doesn’t export as expected. The export is useless. It would be better to remove that as an option until you can do it properly.

Hi all,

I have built an app for this feature.
See demo:

I hope to release it through Miro’s app marketplace. Will this solve the problem? Feedback welcome!

Gavin

I love miro but what other programs are you using that has a similar function to miro so I can actually use my mind maps?

Miro has great functionality and visuals but will only have incidental utility and usage if information generated here can’t be further used in subsequent processes.

I can’t understand why the “export to CSV” feature was implemented this way in a mind mapping platform. Isn’t the structure the whole point of mind mapping?

Maybe they’re implementing this but forgot of updating the status of this functionality?

@gavin032 any news about your exporting tool? Miro staff should be excited about it if their potential consumers are so interested! We’re talking about 18 months of demand!

Hey @Escada Celeste . We are almost there! We are working with Miro to make sure the app is marketplace ready. Fingers cross we will be there soon :)

Nice to hear that.

I imagine you’re trying to cover most of the suggestions pointed out here as well! If I may add a suggestion (I believe it should have a simple execution), being able to export mind maps as bulleted text would be awesome, like WorkFlowy.

@Escada Celeste thank you for this suggestion. Once we have released our first version of the app we will think about how to include features like this.

Keep the feature requests coming! :relaxed:

Still waiting on the review process I am afraid. I have used the time to improve the UX though. I made a twitter for posting updates. For example, here is a feature I added over the weekend.

Hopefully there will be some movement this week!

That’s great news, Gavin! Miro really owes you one!

I sent you a message about your question. Sorry about the delay.

Of course this is needed!

Are you all also talking about re-import? I was looking at Kuru and they have dynamic update capability with google sheets.

Is there any way to download this or get the code to get it working? If miro had more of the advanced mindmap settings i’d love to keep using them but i’m planning to move to xmind cause of their ability to connect photos inside the mindmap aswell as collapsable notes etc. Hoping to save myself the work of moving my mindmap of like 300 nodes. Haha
