Different Shape Sticky Notes

We have a team member that’s color blind. Right now, we use different color sticky notes for workshop activities, but that’s impossible for him to distinguish. We would be able to avoid this altogether if there were different shapes for sticky notes in Miro, like stars, triangles, circles, etc.

@Gabriela Vargas Good idea! There's actually a way to avoid this already though: using tags. 🙂

Use Tags to structure your tasks and ideas. Highlight a sticky note click the Tag icon create a new tag or choose an existing one and apply it to as many stickies as you like. The tag search allows you to quickly locate a group of stickies. You can add up to 8 tags to each sticky.

To find all the stickies that contain a specific tag, use board search

@Henrik Ståhl I appreciate the suggestion. We have used tags in the past. Since they’re small, they’re not easy to distinguish without using search for them or zooming in. You can’t tell which stickies are part of which tag group when you are looking at the entire board without searching.

Thanks for sharing this suggestions @Henrik Ståhl! Happy to hear it has worked for you in the past!

Stickies are meant to be a skeuomorphic feature, representing a real world object. You don’t get shaped Post-it notes, Just square and rectangle. So I can understand why this has not been a feature.

Have you considered using shapes instead for this particular usecase? There are many shapes to choose from.

Alternatively, have you considered only using the colours of the stickies that this particular individual can decipher between? Unless they have complete color vision deficiency, also called monochromacy or achromatopsia, which is very rare, they should be able to tell the difference between some colours. Deuteranomaly is the most common form of colour blindness, followed by protanomaly and then tritanomaly. Accessibility accommodations would suggest to use the most contrasting colours from the pallette.
