Default Miro desktop app redirection

I have the Miro desktop app installed on my machine and it is how I intend to use Miro. When clicking on a Miro board’s URL link, it opens in the Miro web browser app instead of the desktop app. Once opened in the browser app I am then redirected to the Miro desktop app.

The trouble with this is it requires excessive and, sometimes, unnecessary authentication, making for friction when attempting to use Miro. Here are two scenarios outlined that I face nearly every time I want to use Miro...

Logged into desktop app, but logged out of browser app

In this scenario, even though I intend to use the desktop app I still need to log in to the browser app. My organization uses MFA through a physical security key, making it a bit more involved to log in than just entering the username/password. This isn’t Miro’s issue, but being faced with this when my intent is to use the desktop app and not the browser app means it is a meaningless barrier.

Logged out of both desktop app and browser app

Often times I am logged out of both apps due to time out. In this scenario, I need to first login and re-authenticate via the web browser app, but then once I’ve completed the above process and I am redirected to the desktop application, I need to do it all over again. Getting to see my board in the Miro desktop app usually takes… I need to count them… maybe around 8 pages/interactions?

Miro is the only app I’ve come across with this kind of barrier to entry. Zoom, for example, re-directs me to the desktop application immediately upon clicking a related URL.

I’d love to see an option for default URL direction to happen to the desktop application instead of the browser app. This would be a huge improvement for UX and address an accessibility issue I’ve seen a growing number of Miro users on my immediate team complaining about.
