Hi there,
I like the User Story Map Framework quite a bit, but it has one major constraint for me. As much as Jeff Patton suggests, that there is a story map for each persona, I made a very positive experience in my previous professional work with this approach (and yes, I had actually discussed this with Jeff once in person and he wasn’t so much fond of the idea of multiple personas in one map). Imagine not just one row of tasks, but multiple, each one preceeded with a persona name to which it is related (day-in-the-life-of-persona-x).
Then when creating a user story, you select to which of the personas (related to a task) this story belongs. By this you can get a holistic picture in ONE story map and prioritize an MVP / iteration across personas.
Anybody up for multiple personas in one map?
BTW, I had created a tooling for this with working students which had some dependent features like
- hide/unhide stories belonging to persona X - if you want to concentrate on one / view multiple for better overview
- export user stories belonging to a) a persona b) a usage sequence (which is a structural element above the activities c) an iteration to JIRA / XLS,/ …
Best, Achim
