The Kanban framework and cards have various meta data (columns, swim lanes, owners, participants, due dates, etc.). Putting this meta data to use for automated task management, like reminders, and status visualization, like cards per team member, or cards over-due, could be very powerful. Some other examples include:
- Automatically send notifications of tasks to owners, and reminders when they are due
- View tasks by due date/past due
- Assign point values to tasks
- View other task reporting like status, by owner, % complete, etc.
Even some simple functionality would reduce the need for duplicative task management tools on most projects.
