Hello, My question is regarding MP4 Video Uploading to Miro, we work many animation references, and video support is extremely important.
Every time I try to upload a video I get an error “File type is not supported” for some reason. previously I was able to add without problems, and now It stopped and I don't have the option, as also for my team members across all boards as well as new boards.
I tried to upload a linked video file to OneDrive, but also faced problems there where I get messages that I am not authorized and wasn't able to preview the video, and other team members can’t view it aswell, so that option was also not useful to say the least.
other alternatives I was resorted to was to convert mp4 to gif, but quality decreases and realistically it is not sustainable.

Would love to get support and guide on how i can fix this issue (like I mentioned, previously I was able to paste videos without a problem)

Hi there,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Based on what you described, it sounds like the issue with uploading MP4 videos to Miro could be caused by a few factors—let’s break it down and go through some steps you can try:

1. Check File Format & Codec

  • Miro supports MP4 files using H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec.
  • Even if the file has an .mp4 extension, if it was exported with a different codec, it may be rejected.
  • Action: Re-export the video using a standard H.264/AAC MP4 profile and try uploading again.

2. Check File Size

  • Miro has file size limits for uploads, depending on your plan. For most paid plans, the limit is around 500MB per file, but free accounts may have smaller limits.
  • Very large files may fail with a generic “File type not supported” error.
  • Action: Ensure your video is below the file size limit. If needed, compress it slightly using a tool like HandBrake while keeping H.264 codec.

3. Browser & Cache

  • Sometimes cached settings or cookies cause unexpected upload errors.
  • Action:
    1. Clear browser cache or try an incognito/private window.
    2. Try a different browser entirely (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).
    3. Ensure your browser is up to date.

4. Permissions & Linked Files

  • For videos stored on OneDrive or other external services, Miro needs proper access permissions.
  • If your team members cannot view it, the link is probably restricted or not publicly accessible.
  • Action:
    • Either adjust OneDrive sharing permissions to allow “anyone with the link can view,” or
    • Upload directly to Miro instead of linking externally.

5. Check Miro’s Status

  • Occasionally, temporary issues with Miro’s video processing can affect uploads.
  • You can check the Miro status page to see if there are ongoing issues.

6. Contact Miro Support

  • If all the above steps fail, this may be a platform-side issue, especially since it was previously working and now failing across multiple boards.
  • Include these details when contacting support:
    • File size and codec information
    • Browser and version used
    • Screenshots of the error message
    • Any attempts with external links

Summary:

  • Verify MP4 codec (H.264/AAC) and file size.
  • Clear cache, try different browsers or incognito mode.
  • Avoid external links unless they are fully public.
  • Contact Miro support if the problem persists—they can investigate your account-specific upload issue.
