I think it has something to do with the sticky notes' size. The smaller the stickies are, the more tightly packed the text appears. On the other hand, when the sticky note is larger, it creates the impression that there's more empty space. I tested this on my end and got the same result. Also, when I zoomed in on the smaller sticky, the "margin" became more visible as I increased the zoom.
