Hi, whenever I use the right-click to move around the board on my windows laptop, I get a menu pop-up. It’s really annoying to go through this each time, as I don’t need that menu. I know I’m not doing anything wrong as I have used this functionality in the past without any trouble. It’s very frustrating to navigate around a board without it being smooth.

Anyone else experiencing this?

@Salman Sharif - What menu do you get?

Are you using a mouse, trackpad, or some other input device?

It’s the one you get when you right click (see attached image). I’m using a bluetooth mouse on a windows 10 laptop.

@Salman Sharif - Thanks for sharing the screenshot. Now we know what pop up you are seeing (the one when you right-click on a blank spot on the board). This distinction is important as sometines people use huge, colored (and locked) shapes as a means of giving the board a background color. Then, sometimes when moving around the board/over the locked shape, they get the context menu of the locked shape.

How are you accessing Miro? A browser? If so, which one? Or maybe the Miro desktop app?

If a browser, have you tried another browser?

Are you able try another computer?

When did this start happening?

Thanks Robert.

I’m accessing through Google Chrome. Have tried Edge as well just now - same problem. I don’t think my org allows us to download the desktop app, so that’s not an option unfortunately. It started happening probably about 2-3 months ago - hard to remember, sorry!

It seems to happen more often on boards that I have created. I tried boards created by others - they seem to create less of an issue.

@Salman Sharif - If you are currently in “Auto switch “ navigation mode, you could try forcing mouse mode and see if that changes the behaviour at all:

Coincidentally, I just noticed that, if I right-click and hold for 1-2 seconds and then drag, I am in select mode and not pan.

It is not always, but sometimes when I use right-click on my mouse, the whole board gets blue shaded.

I’m using miro with a browser (Safari), but one of my pupils had the same today on his tablet (without any mouse connected).

The preference (on my laptop) was auto-detect → mouse. I’ll try to remember to look at that option if it occurs again.

It happens with both preferences (mouse and trackpad). But not often.

@Robert Johnson

The same thing OleZ mentioned above started happening to me this week too. I’m using Safari. It doesn’t seem to have an issue in Chrome though. The blue usually goes away if I zoom in and out a few times or left-click anywhere. The issue makes it unusable though in my default browser.

I’m using Safari here, too.

It seems like I am experiencing an issue where using the right-click on my company laptop (Windows) brings up a menu instead of allowing me to move around the board smoothly in Miro. This problem is happening to me too, and it's really frustrating because it's affecting my ability to work effectively in Miro. I've attempted to use both Chrome and Edge, but the issue persists. Every time I try to use the right mouse button, a pop-up window appears instead of allowing me to navigate the board. Do you have any recommendations for resolving this issue?

@Dariusz Jacoszek - Are you holding the mouse button down while dragging or are you right clicking and letting go of the mouse button?

Can you share a screenshot of window that appears when you right click? I'm curious if it is the Miro menu or a standard browser window/menu.

I've been holding down the mouse button while trying to drag, but the issue persists. It's important to note that I've been using Miro for several years with the same laptop and mouse, so this is a new problem for me. I've looked into the mouse options and tried the suggestions you provided earlier, but I haven't seen any visible changes. Here's what appears when I attempt to move around on the board.

Thanks for the background. Because you are using a corporate laptop, it is safe to assume that you are running corporately managed versions of Chrome and Edge, and therefore they could have made changes, e.g., newly installed extensions, that are causing the issue - or even something outside of the browser that is impacting your experience.

The only other thing I could suggest is (if it isn’t already) is to force your Miro navigation mode to mouse vs. auto-detect (more on this here).

You could also try installing the Miro desktop app, while being mindful of corporate app install policies, or course. https://miro.com/apps

It is also available in the MS Store.

Thank you, Robert, for your time and assistance. Despite trying all your suggestions, none of them were effective. This is why I turned to the community for further help. I must mention that you may be correct about certain extensions being installed or Chrome/Edge updates being managed corporately, but I disagree that this should cause any issues. My company has been using Miro for some time, and I believe that Miro should provide solutions that are robust in such situations. However, I will keep you updated on whether I find a solution or not. At the moment, this issue is significant, as it prevents me from smoothly working with my boards during calls, which makes Miro practically not a working tool for me.

@Dariusz Jacoszek

but I disagree that this should cause any issues

To be clear, I never said it should. Making any seemingly unrelated change should never break core functionality.

My company has been using Miro for some time

Is this issue happening for everyone in the company?

Miro offers a desktop app. Have you tried this as a means of ruling out your browsers as the cause of the issue? (Again, it could still be caused by something else on your computer).

All of that being said, the issue could be caused by something on Miro’s end. Have you opened a support ticket with Miro? If you are using a paid Miro subscription, you can open a Miro support ticket by following these instructions:

@Robert Johnson I do appreciate for all the feedback you provide and here are some of my comments:

Is this issue happening for everyone in the company?

I've actually asked our internal Miro Community if other users have experienced a similar issue, but so far, I haven't received any responses. That's why I reached out for help elsewhere.

Miro offers a desktop app

I'm aware of this, but unfortunately, it's not allowed within our company.

Have you opened a support ticket with Miro?

I haven’t done that yet, but I think that's a very helpful suggestion. Thank you for recommending it.

All in all, for the time being, I've been using the hotkeys V/H to switch between pan/select mode while on the board, which allows me to work more comfortably. However, I've already gotten used to operating with the right mouse button, so I'll have to learn to use it again 😅

@Dariusz Jacoszek - The support team will likely ask you for browser logs (from miro.com only) for analysis. Hopefully they can pinpoint the source of the issue.

Another shortcut is to hold down the spacebar when you want to pan and then let go – that is a toggle for pan/select.
