If I upgrade a free plan with multiple team members, but only select 1 member when upgrading, what happens to the rest of the members currently on the team? I want them to be converted to guests so they can still contribute.

@Emma Trude You cannot upgrade just yourself. When you get to the checkout screen, if you change the license count below the current team member count, you will not be able to proceed.

For example, this Free Plan team has two members. When I try to upgrade to just one license, I receive this warning:

As the warning states, you can either remove members or create a new team:

HI @Emma Trude, thanks for reaching out!

Echoing Rob’s response, when you upgrade a Free plan to a paid plan, the whole team is upgraded — not just a single member. You can’t partially upgrade only yourself while keeping the others on Free within the same team.

If you only want one paid seat but still need others to contribute without being billed:

  • You would need to remove the other members from the team before upgrading.

  • After upgrading, you can invite them back as guests or visitors (free collaborators). Guests can edit boards that you explicitly share with them, but they don’t take up paid seats as long as they use their email invitation link and are not added as full team members. While visitors can view and comment on the board. Learn more here: Guests | Visitors
