Hi,

I used to be able to paste SVGs in to Miro directly but recently it has stopped working and comes up with the error “! File without extension”. Is this an intentional change, or is this a bug?

As an example, I used to copy and paste the SVG icons from https://awsicons.dev/ in to my diagrams

I can drag regular .svg files in, e.g. from the Finder, but not from that website. Shame, as it looks like a useful resource!

Hi @AndySmith and @David Shanks,

Thanks for bringing this up! You’re right that SVG is one of the supported formats in Miro, so encountering the “file without extension” error while pasting from https://awsicons.dev/ does seem unusual. I tried a similar approach with another site, https://www.svgrepo.com/vectors/aws/, and the SVGs pasted successfully. This website also has AWS vectors.

It could be a compatibility issue specific to that website, or a recent change in how processes SVGs from certain sources. I’d recommend trying to download and drag the file in, as David suggested, or use another SVG resource in the meantime.

I’ll also flag this to the team to see if there’s more insight into why this might be happening. Will update you here in the thread once I receive a response from them.

Hi @David Shanks and @AndySmith

As per the response of our team, the error “file without extension”  shows up because  awsicons.dev copies literal SVG code to your clipboard rather than a URL to an SVG file. Miro doesn't support pasting literal SVG code at the moment.

Hope this helps clarify the situation!

Hi Eca,

Thanks for following this up, I appreciate it.

As you can see from the link below the AWSIcons repo hasn’t changed for 4 years and I was using it with Miro regularly until very recently. https://github.com/boyney123/awsicons

Pasting SVG code worked until a few weeks ago so something has changed either with Miro or how the browser pastes SVG. Maybe it was removed for a security reason.

Anyway, thanks for looking in to it.

Andy

Just jumping in, as I’m facing the same issue as @AndySmith, and it’s significantly impacting my workflow. Can Miro please fix this and reinstate the feature? Cheers! Connor.

The copy/paste workflow with SVGs is awesome.
