Miro boards deleted after prompt to create team

Hello -

I’ve had a Miro account since (I think) at least 2021, and have created boards under the free version of Miro that I’ve been able to access as recently as late last year. Today I tried to sign into Miro and was prompted to “create a team” - after I created a team I was no longer able to access any of the boards that I had created previously, my Miro is just empty. I’ve read through related help guides on the topic - I don’t believe that I was creating boards under anyone else’s “team”, as this was a personal account that I opened for my own use. I may have at some point invited a collaborator to a board, but I’m unsure as I can’t access or track these old boards anymore. I don’t have a paid plan so I can’t access the trash bin. Any suggestions on how to recover my old boards?

Since you had been accessing the boards as early as late last year, your team/board would not have been deleted due to inactivity, but I wanted to point this out for all readers as as possible explanation for delete content — more on this here:

https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/8947553237906-Why-did-I-get-an-email-about-an-inactive-team#I_no_longer_want_my_team._Do_I_need_to_do_anything?

There are two scenarios in which a Miro Free Plan team account profile is created:

  1. Someone goes to miro.com and signs up
  2. Or they received an invite to collaborate on a board and they sign up during the process of gaining access to the board they were invited to.

In scenario 1, they have a Free Plan team of which they are the Team Admin and sole member.

In scenario 2, they are a Member of someone else’s team.

Even if you did create your own team (i.e., Scenario 1), you could have later been invited to another team from which you created boards and continued to work from. Then, after inactivity, your personal team was deleted and you continued to work from someone else’s team. And finally, between late last year and your post, a Team Admin of the team where your boards were removed you from the team. When Miro sees that you are not a member of any team, you are prompted to create a Free Plan team.

Finding who invited you to the team where you boards are

You could try searching your emails for phrases like:

  • miro.com
  • has invited you to a team in Miro
  • has invited you to edit on a board in Miro

This may lead you to whomever invited you (and hopefully they can add you back, so you can duplicate your boards to your own team).

I detailed your scenario, and the above email search steps in this post:
