Spec’s: MacBook Pro, 16GB Ram, 15.3.2 (24D81) Miro: V0.10.90
Problem: Why does Miro App load and function so slowly on my Mac? Opening the app takes 40 to 60 seconds, and opening a board takes 15 to 20 seconds. I use other apps like Figma and Notion, and they all work quickly — so why is Miro App (Not web) so sluggish? What can I do to fix this?
Thank you

HI @Andrew Woods,

Thanks for sharing your experience. That does sound frustrating! Since other apps run smoothly, there could be a specific issue affecting Miro on your Mac. Here are a few things you can try to improve performance:

  • Reset Miro’s application data: In the desktop app, go to Alt → Help → Reset application data.
  • Check for updates: Ensure your Miro app is fully updated.
  • Disable hardware acceleration: If enabled, try disabling it in Miro settings to see if it improves performance.
  • Try reinstalling the app: Fully uninstall Miro and download the latest version from the Miro website.
  • Monitor system resources: Use Activity Monitor to check if Miro is consuming excessive CPU or memory.

If the issue persists, I’d recommend reaching out to Miro Support so they can investigate further. Let us know if any of these solutions help!

I do experience the same problem. Miro desktop app for mac becomes slower and slower now for quite a while. Alle this great “tips” here from the Miro team are useless. I suspect simply a underperforming job of Miro in terms of app development. I will now start research for alternatives to Miro.

Hi @Frank Georgi — I hear your frustration, and I’m sorry to learn the issue has continued despite trying the suggested steps. I understand how performance issues like this can affect your workflow.

While I can’t fix the app directly, I can pass your feedback along to the product team so they’re aware of your experience. If you haven’t already, I’d still recommend reaching out to Miro Support with your full system details — they can gather logs and escalate internally if needed.

Thanks for sharing your perspective! your input helps us understand where things aren’t working well, and that’s essential for improvement.

The same for me, the new version of the app is now unusable. It’s a pity as I used it a lot, and need for Uni. I’m having to cancel my subscription :-(

Same problem with desktop app. Works alright in browser, but super frustrating. Something is causing the Miro Helper (renderer) process to take up most of the %CPU in the Activity Monitor. Not sure what is going on, but the desktop app is completely useless now.

Same problem here. I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro and works faster in my old computer. Miro is getting worst and worst, full of functionalities but it can’t handle just a couple of post-its

Hi,

Thank you both for taking the time to share your experiences — I’m really sorry to hear how disruptive the app performance has been, especially when you’re relying on Miro for important work or studies.

@Patrick Piuma  your note about the Miro Helper (renderer) process spiking CPU usage is especially helpful — I’d definitely encourage you to share that with Miro Support so they can take a closer look. They may ask for logs to help investigate the root cause.

@Miguel Bello, I understand your concern, especially if you’re seeing worse performance on a newer machine — that’s not what we want! Thanks for flagging it.

Please know I’ll pass all your feedback along to the product team so they’re aware. If you do get in touch with Support, they’ll be in a better position to troubleshoot this with the right tools. Please wait for their response to your inbox!

Appreciate your patience.

Same here, MacOS app is Painfully slow, all fixes proposed in this thread do not work and CPU load is above 90% when starting, logging in takes about 10 minutes...

Hi @Alejo Romano

I’ve converted your comment into a support ticket so the team can take a closer look and investigate this directly. Please keep an eye on your inbox for their follow-up — they might request some logs or system info to better understand what’s happening.

I’m also in the same boat. Over the past few months Miro desktop has become pretty much useless. Even on a brand new Mac Studio. I’m hoping the developers are taking a close look at this as Miro is essential to my teams workflow.

Just wanted to follow up that the Miro team helped me figure out the problem I was having with the desktop app on my Mac. I migrated my data from an old Mac with Intel processors to a new Mac Studio with Apple silicon. The Miro App that was transferred was for Intel processors which was why it was almost unusable. The odd thing is that the app worked ok for a while on the new computer. Must have been an OS update that killed it.

Anyway, here is how to check to see if you are having the same issue:

To check, please follow these steps:

  1. Check Your Mac's Chip: Determine whether your Mac uses an Intel processor or Apple silicon. You can do this by selecting the Apple menu > About This Mac. If your Mac has Apple silicon, it will show an item labeled "Chip" followed by the chip's name. If it has an Intel processor, it will show an item labeled "Processor" followed by the name of an Intel processor.

  2. Verify Miro Version: Open the Miro app and go to the Help menu. If you are using a Mac with Apple silicon, you should see "Version 0.11.99 arm64". If you see "Version 0.11.99 Intel", you are using the incorrect version.

If you notice that your Miro Desktop app and device are incompatible, please download the appropriate version on our website.

Thank you Patrica - this was indeed the case for me!

Same here. Impossible to work with the app on Mac. Since this is nothing I don’t pay for, I just want to know, when this is fixed …

Should read first. Had the wrong version (for intel instead of apple chips). Now it works

It appears that when the Miro App updates, it automatically downloads the Intel version, regardless of what version you downloaded initially. This might also be an App Store problem.

If you go and download the correct version for your processor from the Miro website, you should be fine.

It’s the same here. M2 MacBook Air. Opening the desktop app needs nearly 4 minutes, opening a board 90 seconds, creating a board 3 minutes and when the new board is ready, you can’t work with it, because placing a note takes up to 30 seconds. It’s not just slow (which it was always a little bit), it’s useless and obviously broken.

That seems to be the problem. I uninstalled the app und reinstalled a new download and it works a lot better. So maybe the update-process is buggy and in some times there are a lot of updates from Miro.
