Lost Access to Private Boards After Education Plan Downgraded

Hi Miro team & community!
I hope someone can help me with this issue.

I was part of an Education team provided by a professor of my university, and I created several private boards within that team. Recently, the entire Education team was downgraded to a Free team, and since then I can no longer access any of my private boards. They don’t show up in my dashboard, drafts, or anywhere inside the team.

I am still a member of the team, but the boards remain invisible, so I’m worried that they might be lost, although I assume they are just hidden due to Free team limitations.

Since I was fairly new to Miro, I didn’t realize that the boards I created would be tied to the team rather than directly to my personal account. I genuinely thought they belonged to me individually, so the situation has caught me off guard.

Is there any way to recover or restore access to my private boards?
If it is necessary to switch to a Starter Plan or apply for an Education Plan in order to transfer these boards to my personal account, I would be very willing to do so, these boards mean alot to me.

Any advice or guidance would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi @Wenzel, thanks for reaching out!

When an Education Plan is downgraded to a Free Plan, the team’s board permissions and visibility rules change significantly. On Free teams:

  • Private boards are not supported

  • Any private or restricted boards become inaccessible, and in many cases hidden from the dashboard

  • Only the three most recently active boards remain visible to the team

The good news is that your boards are very likely still stored on the backend. They’re just not visible under the Free plan’s limitations. In that case, I have your post converted to a support ticket. You should receive a response shortly.
