Is there a way to insert a shape in the middle of your process map and the rest would adjust automatically?

Hello, my team is working with big and complex process maps/diagrams in Miro. Sometimes we need to add some steps into the process map after it is mostly finished. However, in that case, it would mean we have to adjust the rest of the map manually to fit the shape and it can destroy the whole map and connectors etc., especially because we also use swimlanes.
Do you know if there is some more elegant way to adjust it more automatically?
In ideal word, the way I imagine it could work would be like a duplication of the shape including the connector and spacing I guess
Thanks for any ideas! :)

Hi @Martina Ciprová

thanks for reaching out!

Adding steps to large Miro process maps can be tricky, especially with swimlanes and connectors. A few tips:

  1. Placing shapes in frames or using a mind map lets Miro auto-adjust spacing when adding nodes.

  2. Tables or Kanban – easier to insert steps without breaking layout; connectors can link cards.

  3. Duplicate + connect – select a shape with its connector, duplicate it, then move it; preserves formatting.

  4. Templates - some flowchart templates push other elements automatically.

Currently, Miro doesn’t fully auto-insert shapes with connectors preserved, but building maps as mind maps first can make updates smoother.

Community, have you found ways to make updating complex process maps easier? I encourage you to share!
