We are planning to upgrade to a Business account and would like to separate our workspace into groups that are independent from the current Miro board access permissions. Could you please confirm whether, after the upgrade, it will be possible to categorize or organize our existing Miro boards accordingly?

Next, team members are added to the teams and they can only access boards that reside in the team they are a member of. It's important to note, however, that just being a member of a team doesn't mean that a member can access all boards in that team as boards can still be made made private. Also, members can also belong to more than one team in the same Business Plan subscription.
Once you have upgraded to the Business Plan, everyone and all boards will still be in a single team. You would create the new teams required and would then:
1. Add members to the team(s) they need to be a member of
2. Then board owners move their boards to the new team(s)
3. You could remove users from the initial team, or even rename it to be a common team that everyone has access to.
Oh, and Spaces can be moved too.

Does that mean that the existing boards will be maintained and categorized?
+13The moment you upgrade from a single-team plan, e.g., the Starter Plan, everything will look identical - one team, with all of the same members, boards, and Spaces. So, yes, everything is maintained (if that is what you were referring to).
You could leave that team and all boards as-is, and start creating new teams and spaces and bords - similar to if you were to have just created a second Starter Plan.

On the Business Plan, if you need a way to identify which boards can be accessed by a group of users, you could use Spaces (or teams) as your classification system.
