Hi all,

It looks like that the feature where one can import a visio drawing is well hidden. It requires you to go into a board and by importing it opens a new board.

Before this, I believe it was introduced in the higher level.

Since it requires a new board, it is not efficient to put it into another board.

Hi @Stevan Akrap,

Visio files are imported from within a board, and Miro automatically creates a new board for the file. Currently, there isn’t a way to import Visio diagrams directly into an existing board.

A few questions to understand your needs better:

  • Are you looking to merge multiple Visio files into a single board?
  • Would it be helpful if the import allowed you to place the diagram into an existing board?
  • Are you using Miro’s free or paid plan?
  • Did you previously have an option to import Visio files at a higher level, and if so, when did you last use it?

Hi @Eca

Thanks for taking the time to address my question.

My main query was about the first step of importing the visio files to Miro. I was under impression that this was done in the first instance outside of the board - in any case the function place has changes, mor difficult to find it now then during the Beta.

We work a lot with visio drawings. To address the questions:

  • It would be good to have the function to import into the existing board with multiple files.
  • it would be helpful to place the diagram into the existing drawing, as at present I need to import, then copy and paste into another board.
  • We are a paid used.
  • Now when I think about it, I don’t think I was able to import from the outisde a board, but It was easier as it was on the board level settings. Now you need to go to Shapes and Lines/More shapes/import diagram. I had to look for help to find this out.

Thanks

Stevan

Hi @Stevan Akrap,

Thanks for your reply and for sharing more details about your workflow!

From what you’ve described, having the ability to import Visio files directly into an existing board would improve efficiency for your team.

I tried the method you mentioned—importing a Visio file within an existing board—but after the file is added, Miro still creates a new board where the imported file is placed. So currently, the behavior remains the same.

I’ll convert your post into a support ticket so the team can take a closer look. You should receive an update from them soon. Thank you for your patience.

plus 1 for importing visio files into an existing board.  We regularly use boards as a single source of truth for a project, so one board will contain content of varioous types, including miro created content, powerpoints, PDFs, Word docs, images, and hopefully Visio files
