How to restore the boards of a downgraded user?

My colleauge left the company in February, 2024 and we simply stopped paying his account. Now we’d like to restore his boards. We can log in but we can’t access any of his boards, except the ones that are shared with him. Now it’s September, is there any chance to have them back?

Here’s an answer to your question: boards on locked in view-only mode, there's no clear information on how long they will be kept, if they will follow the 12-month dormant policy or the 90 days retention period. I’ve already asked the team about this, and I’ll keep an eye out for updates to share with you.

I hope this clarifies things, but please let me know if you have further questions!

As for your initial message, you mentioned that your colleague left the company and you stopped paying his seat. IS my understanding correct that you are the Admin of the team? Also, is your main goal is to get the ownership of the boards owned by this person?

hi @csmelovics

When a subscription expires, the boards remain for sometime but are eventually deleted. If the past user had boards that were not shared with the team, you would need to get the account reactivated to transfer ownership. Since you mention you are on a paid plan, the best course is to open a ticket with Support (Instructions are here).

Hi @seo

When the billing period for your subscription ends, your Miro boards will be locked in view-only mode for all team members until you downgrade to a free plan or renew your subscription. The boards will not be deleted. More info here.

@ElvaMiro

Thanks for the quick reply. Will the board still be kept after 1 or 2 years? Is it unlimited? I would like to know the specific policy.

@ElvaMiro Please answer my question. Will the boards that are read-only remain the same after 1-2 years? Is it unlimited? I would like to know the specific policy.

Hi @seo,

I just wanted to follow up on this. I’ve got an update from supports, who clarified that when a team’s subscription expires, the boards locked in view-only mode are kept indefinitely as long as the team status remains expired. This means they won’t be subject to the 12-month inactivity policy or deleted unless you downgrade the team to the free plan or take any other action that would mark the team as inactive.

Hope this helps!
