Are you losing layer information?

I’m not sure if I’m going crazy or if its a bug in Miro. Is anyone else losing layer information from the shapes/lines on their boards?

I use Miro’s layers feature to separate overlays of information (shapes on top of shapes). For example a single floor plan can show the basic floor plan and then I unhide a layer to show the electrical, ventilation, or plumbing plans overlaid on the flor plan.

Its occuring enough to drive me nuts. Objects that I am 99% sure I assigned to a layer are reverting to the default layer, hours or days after I originally drew them.

Hi @MikeC Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how disruptive it can be when layer assignments don’t stay where you placed them, especially when you rely on them for complex floor plan overlays.

At the moment, we don’t have a known widespread issue where objects automatically revert to the default layer, so your report is important. That said, a few scenarios can cause similar behavior:

  1. Objects inside groups or frames
    – If an object is grouped or moved into a new frame, it may inherit the layer behavior of that parent container.

  2. Collaborator edits
    – If someone with edit access changes object order or moves items between frames, those objects may appear to “jump” layers.

  3. Undo/redo actions
    – In rare cases, repeated undo/redo sequences can revert layer assignments unintentionally.

  4. Board history sync issues
    – If you switch devices or lose connection during edits, layer changes may not sync accurately.

Could you please provide the following?

  • A short screen recording showing objects being assigned to a layer and later reverting

  • Whether the objects are inside frames or groups

  • Whether the board is shared with collaborators

  • The browser/app version you’re using

Once we have this information, we can escalate the report to our technical team for a deeper investigation.
