It would be great if there was a way to directly message or otherwise converse with an individual workshop participant without having to do it in the overall chat window that everyone can see. even better if i could also post images to that individual. don’t think we can do this yet!

+13Correct, it appears we cannot currently do this.
I was curious about the actually behavior when using @mentioning someone in a Chat, so I tested it out and confirmed that when we @mention someone in a Chat all participants can see this.
