Work colleague 'charged' for my miro students!?

Hi there,

I’ve been using miro for my students for a few years, never had an issue… I use it for collaborative activities in session and offline, providing a shared link to use the boards.

I was contacted by a colleague within my institution (there are 2500+, note, this is not an close colleague) who appears to have been charged for ‘my students’ inadvertently logging into her miro.

  • Concerned this may be a data breach? User identities have been shared?
  • I did not know there were individual login charges applicable. is this correct?
  • My ‘shared links’ did actually work, as all my students were in the board on the day. How were they appearing on/in another persons account/boards?
  • To be exact, it appears that mulitple students of mine, from different boards I have used, are appearing on another persons account, how?

Any offer of an explanation and how to address the erroneous charge for my colleague, most welcome

ta

David

Hi @Edavidj,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand your concerns regarding the unexpected charges and potential user identity issues.

Based on your description, it’s possible that:

  • Your institution has a centralized Miro plan where student access may have been linked to your colleague’s account.
  • Students may have been added as team members instead of guests, triggering additional charges.
  • There could be a settings or account mix-up that needs further investigation.

To resolve this, I recommend submitting a support ticket here. Please include:

  • The email addresses of affected users (if possible).
  • The board links used for student activities.
  • Any billing details your colleague received.

This will allow Miro Support to investigate the issue and correct any mistaken charges. Let me know if you need help submitting the request!

Hi and thanks,

i’ve already started a ticket, with most of that info

  • just to confirm there is no central Inst licence.
  • my students get the shared link, and simply drop in (occasionally someone does pop up in my inbox, signaling they ‘need editing rights’ except of course they already have that… so not sure why that might happen?)
  • Here is one of the boards recently used…
  • Though I don’t know how they ended up on someone else's, I imagine part of the issue must be at my end, so again any guidance most welcome

Hi @Edavidj ,

I can see that your ticket is already being handled by Miro Support, and one of the team members is currently investigating your case. Since you've submitted all the necessary details, they should be able to confirm what happened and guide you on how to correct it. Keep an eye out for their response! 😊

Let me know if you need any further clarification in the meantime.

@Edavidj - One possible explanation (that I have seen happen in the past) is that, on one of the boards that were shared, there existed a “team invite” link and the students clicked on it.

More on the Team invite settings (and disabling this option) here:
