Japanese IME is working incorrectly in app and browser

Occasionally when I type something in Japanese Miro fails to recognize the first kana syllable and doesn’t allow me to type what I want to. For example word コーヒー turns into something like kおーひー. There are also cases when the board duplicates some characters while typing.

It really frustrates me since I’m a teacher of Japanese and use Miro as one of main tools for teaching the language. It’s been fantastic so far, but this bug is just so annoyiing. Is there something I could try to fix this?

Hi @Linh VU,

Thanks for reaching out!

It seems that Miro is not processing Japanese IME input correctly, which can occasionally happen with certain web application. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. If you're using Chrome, test in Edge, Firefox, or Safari to see if the issue persists.
  2. Sometimes browser caching causes input issues. Try to clear cache and cookies.
  3. If you're experiencing this in a browser, try the desktop app (or vice versa).
  4. Test in an incognito window. This can help rule out browser extensions interfering with IME input.
  5.  Make sure your IME is set to Japanese (Microsoft IME or Google IME) and test switching between input modes (Hiragana/Katakana).
  6. In Chrome, go to chrome://settings/ > Advanced > System > Disable "Use hardware acceleration when available".

If none of these work, it might be a bug. You can report it to Miro’s support team with details on when it happens (browser/app version, OS, IME used). Hope this helps! 😊
