[KNOWN BUG] P hotkey does not work after E hotkey!

I apologize for such way of telling a bug using a question topic, but I really want to fix this as fast as possible. It happened yesterday on my PC and my laptop after latest update. As default, P E V keys work as hotkeys for Pen, Eraser and Selection tool correspondingly. So I use it a lot to speed up my workflow. But now P key is not working after selecting Eraser as current instrument! So every time you need to switch from eraser to pen you need to move your cursor to select Pen instrument using a mouse, not a single P hotkey button. But it still works if Eraser is not selected, for example, I can switch between Pen and Selection tool using P and V buttons.

I hope I made this message clean. Please fix this, I’m sure this bug is already found by other users too

@Maxim Karpov - I just noticed that a ticket was likely not created from your post, however, the product team is aware of the issue and I have a ticket in my name and will update this post as I hear back from the support team.

Was it helpful?

HI @Maxim Karpov

I was able to replicate the same issue on my end. Rest assured, I’ve reached out internally, and we’ll keep you updated with more information as soon as we have it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I was able to replicate this, too, but it’s worth noting the bug may only be present in the new Simplified UI, where boards have this new top-right Collaboration toolbar:

And the dashboard looks like this:

Robert, what is this “new Simplified UI”? Now I also have many troubles with it. Miro now looks very strange. Sometimes it looks the old way, sometimes switches to “new Simplified UI”. This is terrible. Is there a way to stay on “old UI”?

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to stay or go back to the old UI. This is part of a phased rollout, so you will not see it on all of your team spaces immediately. Here is a bit more information: https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/21040490154898-Spaces

I have been working in Miro for half a year and SUDDENLY a problem occurred. When pressing the hotkey E (eraser), the hotkey P (pen) and V (select) stop working. Instead, when pressing P and V, the buttons are highlighted (but not pressed).

What to do?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I confirm this problem. After key E for erase, when press P, tool don’t revert to pen tool.

I confirm too. Problem appeared about 6 hours ago, when press P, tool does not revert to pen or erase.

What’s interesting not all teams/boards was affected. My colleague doesn't have this problem on her board, but she came to my board and experienced it (and was very surprised).

This problem makes it’s very hard to use miro as usual… Seems like bug was fixed 5 months ago but now appeared again (so we have good chances to get hot fix i hope!).

I have a very similar bug, started yesterday, let me know if you find a solution please.

Hello!

I’m also experiencing this problem. When I press P, the board does not switch to the pen tool. It only works when I click with the mouse. When I press P, the eraser tool is still active, as if I had pressed E.

My stylus also has buttons that I assigned to P and E, but they don’t work as expected.

I think I might have made a mistake. Maybe I pressed some key combination that caused everything to stop working properly. Before that, everything was working fine. The problem occurred in the middle of my online lesson.

Could you please help me with this issue?

Just had this bug happen for me today (Mar 11). I use miro daily and I’ve never encountered this bug till now. Being unable to use the pen and eraser shortcuts is VERY disruptive.

Hi. When I select eraser but then press P to return to the pen, it stays as an eraser. How do I change this?

@Manpreet Sambhi - Your post was merged with this existing post. There is currently a known bug being worked on by the engineers.

Hello

If you activate any tool on the drawing panel, then pressing the "p" key closes the panel instead of turning on the pen. If you press the "p" key with the pen tool turned on, the panel also closes.

Hi @Yggdrasil @zaragik

That sounds like unexpected behavior! You've already been using Miro for a while, so if this shortcut issue suddenly started happening, it might be worth reaching out to Miro Support for further investigation.

Before that, you can try:

✅ Testing in incognito mode to rule out browser extensions
✅ Using a different browser or the Miro desktop app
✅ Clearing cache and cookies

If the issue persists, I recommend submitting a support ticket with details about your browser, OS, and any recent changes to your setup. Let me know if you need help with that! 😊

@Eca Hi, ive also been experiencing such a bug as of lately, started a couple of days ago and cant seem to fix it manually. I’ve seen other posts about a similar problem from about 5-6 months ago, so im sure this is a problem with the program, not just my computer

Harry Williams

I’m also experiencing this bug. The same bug appeared a few months ago, and was fixed, but it seems to have recurred. I’m on an Education plan, so unfortunately I can’t raise a support ticket about this.

@Harry Williams  / @LuckOmen / @zaragik - I merged your replies from other posts into this one.

There is currently a known bug with the E hotkey disabling the P hotkey. I will update this post as I hear back from the support team.
