Hi everyone,

I’m working on a project where my team and I are using Miro to map out a really complex workflow. The board has gotten quite large, and it’s starting to feel a bit overwhelming to navigate and keep things organized.

Does anyone have any tips or best practices for:

  • Structuring large boards?
  • Keeping things visually clean and easy to follow?
  • Helping team members quickly find what they need?

I’d love to hear how others are tackling this! Thanks in advance. 😊

Do you maybe have a screenshot of the board? It is a bit easier to give feedback based on a visual.

In general I would say: You can do a lot with sizing, frames, colors and font size (titels). You can also use links from one item to another.

If the board really becomes too heavy because it consists of too many items, you can consider putting the outline of the workflow in a Miroboard (like a visual table of contents), and the components of the workflow in separate Miroboards. From the 'overview board' you can then link to the detailed boards.

Hope this helps!

@noa.israel - My Miro navigation workflow is to put everything in frames and then use the frames panel as navigation (think headers navigation, like in Word or Google Docs).

Tip: If you want instant moving between frames vs. an animated pan, enable Reduce Motion.

Example:

@Robert Johnson is the only available in presentation mode and to owners of the board? I’m looking for the equivalent of Mural’s “outline” feature. Tia!

The frames sidebar can be opened at anytime, and even by unregistered, anonymous guests, aka Visitors.

Just launch the frames sidebar using this action at the bottom-right corner of the board:

Hi @noa.israel

I know this thread is a month old but I wanted to jump in with some additional tips in case you or others are still looking for ways to organize large Miro boards more effectively!

✔️ Use Frames for Organization & Navigation – Frames act as sections, and the Frames panel (bottom-right corner) can serve as a quick-access menu. Naming frames in a logical order (e.g., "1. Overview," "2. Research," "3. Workflow") can make navigation easier.

✔️ Create an Index or Table of Contents – Adding a "Start Here" section with links to key areas helps team members quickly find what they need. You can link objects directly to frames for seamless movement.

✔️ Use Color & Font Hierarchy – Consistent colors, font sizes, and shapes help differentiate sections and make scanning easier. Large, bold titles can be useful for major sections.

✔️ Minimize Clutter – Collapse unnecessary sticky note groups or use the “Hide Objects” feature to keep things tidy.

✔️ Reduce Motion for Faster Navigation – This eliminates animated transitions when switching frames, making movement smoother.

✔️ Consider Splitting Large Boards – If the board gets too big, breaking it into multiple linked boards can improve performance and keep things manageable.

Let me know if any of these strategies help! Would love to hear how your team is structuring things. 😊
