Cardsy

Easily generate cards in bulk from selected widgets on your Miro boards.

We all love Miro, and I wanted to repay Miro somehow for providing such an amazing product.

So I made a plugin which is gonna be lot of use to me.

Do check it out maybe it might save some of your time as well.

I would appreciate any kind feedback.😊

Use case

You have filled your board with your precious ideas in various widgets like TextSticky, or Shapes.

Now, you want to take advantages of Miro cards properties like

  • assigning a date (could be a deadline)
  • assigning a team member
  • writing detailed description
  • use them in your Kanban framework.

Steps to use:-

  1. Select some widgets from your board
  2. Click on the plugin icon in bottom bar of the board.
  3. Done! All the cards are created with their title from the selected widget’s content.

You can freely use this quick plugin I made by adding to your Miro board.

Add Cardsy to your board

Hi @Yash

Thanks for this, makes life much easier. Can you update on whether this will be available to select in the toolbar that appears when you select one or more objects. Saves having to navigate to the top of the screen.

Also, can we apply a keyboard shortcut to activate it?

Thanks!

Vaughn

I appreciate your hard work. Keep posting new updates with us. This is really a wonderful post. Nice Blog Very interesting and useful information on your website. Thanks for sharing information which is definitely going to help us.

Hi @Yash,

This is an amazing plugin! Thanks heaps for fixing the installation link. I confirm that the new link works and I can see the Cardsy icon on the top right of the Miro board now.

I think the current pinned post has the old link. As a suggestion, perhaps it would be great to pin your post with the correct link? It’ll save the community time on scrolling to find the correct link. I was about to give up on the plugin until I started scrolling through the posts and saw the issue and eventual fix. :)

Cheers,

Eddie

hi, does this still work?

@Vaughn Marles yup I confirm that this plugin still works for me. Are you have any difficulty with it?

yes doesn’t work, and then can’t reinstall

looks like it should link to:

Which link did you use to install? There are some outdated links in the thread. This is the correct one I think? tLINK REMOVED BY @Robert Johnson] - latest install link can always be found on the Cardsy landing page:

seems to reinstall, but then doesn’t work within miro, I click on this and nothing happens. Have cleared cookies and no help. ..

Very silly questions, but did you select on some objects first in your board before clicking the icon? The icon won’t do anything unless you have selected an object.

Thanks Eddie for your help!!

Yes I click on the central node in a mindmap, then I click on Cardsy

@Vaughn Marles - Cardsy does not currently work on mind map objects - it used to in Web SDK 1.0, but not in 2.0. So, Miro recently released CRUD mind map (ability for developers to manipulate mind map objects using Web SDK 2.0) in an “experimental” release, but there is currently a bug. As soon as the bug is fixed, someone may update Cardsy to work with mind map nodes again. I will update this post when I hear more.

Official page for Cardsy (with install link):

thanks! any way we can get to test the wider features of the new mindmap? @Robert Johnson

The feature I am referring to is for developers using the We SDK.

ah, thanks

Updated:

Hey everyone! The Miro Web SDK 2.0 now include CRUD mind map (still experimental) and Yash has updated Cardsy to once again support duplicating mind map nodes into Cards!

This is perfect for taking brainstorming ideas from mind map → card → actionable item in a Kanban (or Jira or Azure Card).

This also makes Cardsy truly unique as there is currently no native functionality in Miro to convert a mind map node into another object! With Cardsy, you could duplicate your mind map nodes into Cards, and then use Miro’s “switch type” functionality to covert the Cards into Sticky Notes, Text, Shapes, etc.

Thanks again, @Yash for this update!

Install link can be found in the next reply ↓

Update: Mindmaps are now supported!

Hey everyone!

Thanks to contribution from a fellow Cardsy user (https://github.com/YashBhalodi/cardsy/pull/2) we are now able to generate cards from mindmap as well.

This is essentially same as what @Robert Johnson just shared above.

Updated plugin is available to be installed from https://cardsy.yashbhalodi.me/ as always.

I think you wouldn’t need to do anything for this update to work just reloading the page should be enough, but If it doesn’t generate cards from mind maps for you, please reinstall the plugin from the above link.

@Robert Johnson It looks like some of the people who lands on this community page are using the link mentioned in the pinned comment, I would like to update the pinned comment, but it look like it is not possible to change pinned message, could you please check once if this is possible or not.

@Yash - Thanks for accepting @Vedran‘s pull request!

I have pinned your most recent reply, removed the link from my last reply, and I also went through every reply with an install link and changed the links to point to the Cardsy landing page → https://cardsy.yashbhalodi.me/

Let me know if there are any other changes you would like me to make.

Hey @Yash , great work, well done!

Some feedback, just like you asked for  :

  • do you think this plugin covers same use case as built-in conversion functionality?
  • It is recommended to use context menu for actions that are possible only with selected object, you can find more info here
  • it would be cool to convert several objects into 1 card, that’d be definitely a new feature. Like, first: title, then: description, rest: tags. What do you think?

Hey, @Boris Borodyansky!

Now that CRUD mind map (experimental) is possible, Cardsy does something that is not natively possible in Miro: Creating a new object from a mind map node. This has long been a source of frustration for me. Here’s my most common use case: Brain storm using a mind map and convert mind map nodes into Cards for syncing with a Jira project. And with Miro AI now here, I have been using mind maps even more was was constantly having to copy the text of a node and pasting in into a Card – once is fine, but doing that ten times… 😣
