Retain highlighted text formatting when copy/pasting.

I’m working with long blocks of text from a transcript, where I highlight the quotes we want to keep. Sometimes I need to cut the copy from one place and paste it to another on my board. However, the highlighted portions disappear, which means I have to double my workflow.

Is there a keyboard shortcut that I’m missing here to retain formatting? Seems like an incredibly basic feature that should be included, as it bogs users down with duplicative tasks that are tedious.

Hi @Rectangle

I think you’re asking about how to copy style and paste style?

Hopefully this works for you!

I can copy the style of a shape as demonstrated in your screenshot, but when I go to paste it, there is no option to paste the style, only “paste”.

Regardless of how I accomplish it, I simply need be able to copy text that’s a mix of highlighted text and non-highlighted text, and then paste it with the exact same formatting—either within the same board or to another board.

What currently happens when I try to copy text like what you see above is the entire chunk of copy defaulting to italics without any highlights.

@Rectangle

hmmm. I wasn’t able to replicate this issue. I was able to format & highlight text (screenshots below) and paste into a new box. Perhaps you’re having a browser issue? I’m using Chrome on a Macbook.

The workflow looks like this:

Two boxes. Text with two formats in box 1

Highlight just the text box and copy

Paste into new box. Formatting is preserved.

Is this the workflow you’re trying?

Sort of. I can do what you illustrated, but I don’t want a ton of text boxes inside of one shape. That would get messy for me.

If you click the cursor into the first text box, then select all of the text inside, then copy it, and finally, paste it into the other box, it loses its formatting. I want to be able to copy/paste like one would in a word processor. However, I can’t copy text that I’ve selected and retain the formatting when I paste it.
